Aquilani arrived in the UK yesterday and after landing at Heathrow airport the 25-year-old Italian international was whisked off to undergo a stringent medical examination.

“Obviously I feel very sorry to leave my city and Roma,” said Aquilani.

“But should the deal be completed with Liverpool it would be fantastic to play with players like Gerrard and Torres and the others.

“Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I am moving on. I want to cordially thank all the Roma fans, who were like neighbours to me and me to them. I was always a fan of Rome and still am.”

Though he is currently recovering from ankle surgery the Reds are hopeful that Aquilani will come through the tests and be confirmed as a Liverpool player within days.

Regarding the price, ferguson spent around the same on nani and anderson as we've spent on Johnson and aquilani. It's just the way the Market has gone these days. Crazy

Does anybody know when he is expected to be fit?
        Oh I don't know.

They didn't specify if he landed at Terminal 5?

I think he started light training last week, so I guess we'll see him vying for a first team place in about a month, knowing how rigorous Rafa is with fitness.

We will sign another striker. Believe.

No more news on the medical then.

He'd of only been in Liverpool for 24 hours, if that. Theres no rush anyway. He cant play till September.

I'm not sure why people are so keen that we rush what should be a very thorough examination of Aquilani. If we are worried about any underlying causes maybe we have to wait a day or so for the results of some tests. I'd rather we did it right and were sure of his fitness than rush it just to make sure the deal goes through ASAP.

He's being put through a stringent medical. He's with the West Ham physio's and some specialists are flying in from Holland to assess his ankle. At least we're being thorough.

A request: when you post this stuff that you've read elsewhere can you also post a link. Would be handy. Cheers.

                              Why West Ham?

Zola took Italy's best physio to West Ham and he was helping Roma out with the recuperation so he knows the history of the ankle thingy. The medical, at least part of it anyway, was performed in Harley Street. We are definitely being more thorough than the usual it would seem.

EDIT: I don't remember where I read it so no link unfortunately.
