The New Manager Thread

I just think football, like everything else, moves on. If Kenny had stayed in management, learning new things at different clubs, in different countries, then it might be feasible. Even then it's hard to stay at the top for any length of time (which is why, even with all the money he's had to spend, Ferguson's achievements shouldn't be written off).Originally posted by kopster View PostRe Kenny coming back.... and he being too long out of the game etc..
So what.., I just dont get that it definitely wouldnt work...
He knows the club, the ethos and the way to play. He can instill confidence and stability, he could have key aides with him such as Sammy Lee, Rush, McAllister - bring in Hyppia also. Ok its pie in the sky stuff.
But its not a total impossibility.. Why cant a man who's achieved so much as a player and manager here, be just as capable as the sound bite specialist Translator!
Only thing, as Neil said that I would fear is that if things went drastically wrong it would tarnish his legendary status.
But for Dalglish to try to come back after years out of it when so much has changed would be a massive gamble for the club as well as for him and his reputation..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I think there is a very odd thing happening here - if G&H are serious about selling the club then surely what the existing board think of Rafa is more or less meaningless. If they don't and/or can't get a good value (in their eyes0 for the club at present then they probably can't afford to sack Rafa. You would think if Rafa wanted to go he would have just offered himself to Juve and been gone. Equally why the heel are the board and manager seemingly happy to invest finances in tranfers for the long term (like Shelvey) if they both envision a parting of the ways?
I hope it doesn't mean that the owners are planning something like what NY suggests (i.e. selling Torres et al to raise funds) and assuming this will force Rafa out solving a second problem with them using his "poor performance" this season as an excuse."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Why would Rafa even contemplate 'offering' himself unless its on his own terms (i.e a payoff)?Originally posted by dww View PostI think there is a very odd thing happening here - if G&H are serious about selling the club then surely what the existing board think of Rafa is more or less meaningless. Because he would be getting a comparable salary, comparative job security, a better professional outlook including decent transfer funds. If he wanted out it offers a very good way out. Unless of course we assume that his sole motivation is financial.Originally posted by Dessy View PostWhy would Rafa even contemplate 'offering' himself unless its on his own terms (i.e a payoff)?"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Surely he's keeping his options open by not offering his services just yet? He has a job, theres potential for a new owner and so potential for a change in direction, he has suitors lining up in the background....he can't lose, can he?Originally posted by Phoenix06 View PostWhy wouldn't Rafa offer his services if he's unsure about the future of the club?
Better to keep his options open.

It mightn't be his sole motivation (financial) but I'm pretty sure with the amount being talked about in terms of payoff, losing a slice of that to walk away on a matter of principle or professional betterment must be a consideration for him.Originally posted by dww View PostBecause he would be getting a comparable salary, comparative job security, a better professional outlook including decent transfer funds. He wouldn't walk away, both parties would come to a mutual agreement where the terms of his Rafa's exit would be worked out. Possibly the next meeting.Originally posted by Dessy View PostIt mightn't be his sole motivation (financial) but I'm pretty sure with the amount being talked about in terms of payoff, losing a slice of that to walk away on a matter of principle or professional betterment must be a consideration for him.Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

Hence why I think he's not accepted the Juventus offer until he's sought clarification from Broughton that new investors want him. If not, he accepts(which he has until Monday I think), and then it's bye bye.Originally posted by Dessy View PostSurely he's keeping his options open by not offering his services just yet? Well, van Gaal went on record a few weeks back, saying he would quit the Bayern job if he won the treble.Originally posted by dww View PostI imagine he would be easily tempted from the nice stable, league topping CL finalists who also happen to be the most cash rich club in Europe to come and take over a club not in the CL and with no transfer funds and proven liars as owners.
He has all but won the national championship and is qualified for the finals fo the national cup and the CL.
Maybe not so impossible after all ... and his attacking football is fun to watch.
But then again, he can always retract his statement, dismissing it as a bit of fun at the time.
I still got the feeling we're stuck with Rafa and have to give him a last chance ... maybe he'll surprise us all.

I think the bottom line is that he'd only be happy to go on terms that are mutually agreed and part of that would be that he'd want a decent payoff, sacked or not?Originally posted by Phoenix06 View PostHence why I think he's not accepted the Juventus offer until he's sought clarification from Broughton that new investors want him. I don't see how it is in the current owners interests to get rid of him by mutual agreement or whatever. The new owners may or may not want him but the sale of the club would need to be sorted before that.Originally posted by cream View PostHe wouldn't walk away, both parties would come to a mutual agreement where the terms of his Rafa's exit would be worked out. Rafa would get a pay off but not the full amount of his contract. Also, there will be some conditions such as talking to the media and not working in this league for a set time.Originally posted by Dessy View PostI think the bottom line is that he'd only be happy to go on terms that are mutually agreed and part of that would be that he'd want a decent payoff, sacked or not?Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon
