I think Benitez got it right then the next season things got wrong and out of his control. Alonso going and Mascherano unhappy, all his plans seemed to be wrecked before the season started. Arbeloa and Hyppia went too, which didn't help and funds to reinvest in the squad were scarce.

I firmly believe that Rafa would have won us the league last year had we kept Alonso and Sami, plus having he money to invest in two very good players. It didn't happen and we lost our way.

I know, but even the journo's are twitting away just about anything these days to get attention.

Journalist's are the new media-whores, doing everything to get themselves to be the focus of the story...

Just look at silly season and ownership to see the amount of wrong info twitted by "well-meaning" journalists.

Just seen an article claiming infighting at Marseilles and the mafia getting involved. Article stated that an opening from one of the teams in England could be an opportunity for him.

Whoever we end up with though, it's not going to change with the current board and owners.

Rafa made a load of mistakes last year - starting with Johnson and Aquilani but I feel there were more than enough mitigating circumstances.

But seeing as the board just watch SKY for their football opinions there was little chance of keeping public enemy #1 at the club.

I feel ok now, I think we will move on and soon be in the top 4 pushing for the EPL. CL football for us next season now. Please Mr Hodgson go and get another job, one that would be very proud with this start and the expectations he appears to have, may I suggest Hull.

              Serious question:

If we mirrored Fulham's season lat year (Europe league final, 12th place in the league) do you think Roy would consider that a successful year?

              I do

I wouldn't call them 'mistakes'. Alonso had to be replaced and maybe his other targets weren't available. With less money, you've got to take more risks (unproven players/bargains etc).

Johnson wasn't a bad buy. He was very expensive yes and I don't think he's worth that kind of money (he hasn't justified it yet) but at the same time it's a very specialist position. Add to that the 'home-grown' rule, he had to buy British.

I think we can safely say that on the whole, Rafa's buys have been excellent. With the adequate backing, he did really well in the transfer market. With less money, the more risks you take and he did very well with that in mind.

It's very sad that all that seems to be left of his reign in the minds of people, is this shocking last season, where things contributed against him (worst injury list ever etc).

All this talking down of expectations just plays into the hands of the owners as if they can get the fans accepting mediocrity then it will be easier to strip the club of finances.

I have never heard a Liverpool manager come out with the stuff Roys coming out with.

Probably because we haven't had as poor a manager as Roy in living memory.

                    And yes I'm including Souness.

The video of his post match interview in that link shows that he's out of his depth.

Throw in Jova and Konchesky and it's a completely new left side. Then add in Torres who is still finding form and fitness and it was never going to be easy.

Take into account all those factors and it is clear to see that we are some way short of where our best form will be under Hodgson. All that said though, I don't think he's made it easy for himself or the team.

I think in every game so far this season we have shown that when we actually have had a go at teams we have dominated the play and looked like a very capable side. Problem is the times we actually go for it have been very few and far between.

I do wonder where we'd be in the league if Roy had actually instructed the players to go out and have a real go at the opposition. I'm guessing we'd have more than 6 points.

Problem is that Roy has shown in the past that he is a conservative manager and I wonder if we will ever be let of the leash.

I laugh when I think Johndoe suggested we get Ian Holloway in, and he is clearly not yet at the tactical level of Hodgson. But he would have instructed us too attack and with the players we have it's hard not to think we would actually be doing better under him. I'm not for one second suggesting we get Holloway in, but a more experienced coach with the same ambitious attacking policy would be nice.
It would be valid excuses if he was playing a tactic that gets the best use out of them

Probably because the other managers at least knew what being a manager of Liverpool FC is all about. Roy don't seem to have a clue. He seems to think that we are just a club like any other club.

When you're the manager of Liverpool FC. Then you at least try to win the games. At Anfield you show that the opposition should fear us. You don't sit back, you never do that at Anfield against any team in the world. Anfield is a fortress or it was that before Roy took charge. You dictates the play, not the opposition.

If things don't go our way the minimum I expect is a good performance. What I'll never expect is being outplayed in every domestic game before October and being told by our manager that my expectations were too high and a draw against a mid_table team, ends my Liverpool week on a high.

He's out of his depth and clearly the wrong man for the job but there is absolutely no chance he'll be sacked before the club changes hands so we should try to ignore he's **** and concentrate on getting the yanks out and getting behind the team.

Hopefully whoever takes us over will have a footballing agenda to meet when they appoint the next manager not a financial one
