Without going back to the Rafa debate 6 months or so after he left these things are clear -
1. As things were last summer it was right for him to go.
2. Hodgson has made us considerable worse.
3. Rafa returning would make us considerably better because he will have proper backing from the owners - not just financial but he wouldn't be embroiled with in fighting like he was with H&G.

and........
4. Imagine a Rafa Benitez Liverpool team with the signings he wants to make rather that 3rd or 4th choice, Rafa started to fail/suffer because of having to balance the books financially and because he got too caught up fighting against H&G and later on Purslow as well.

Take away having to sell some of our best players to balance the books, take away not fighting with the owners so he can concentrate solely on training.
And remember that he always fought our (the fans) corner, stood up to Fergie and the rest and made us 'proud' again

.Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed he wants to bring in some fresh faces to Anfield when the transfer window reopens.

The former Fulham boss assumed control of the Merseysiders last summer and made four signings, but he has failed to win over the club's faithful.

Hodgson does not feel that the squad he inherited from Rafa Benitez is his own yet and he wants to time to stamp his authority onto the Liverpool team.

The 63-year-old would like the time some managers have been afforded elsewhere and does not feel he can be critiqued until he is able to have all of his own chess pieces in place.

Hodgson now says he would like to do some 'good business' in the New Year in order to help move the prestigious club up the Premier League ladder.

"It is starting to feel more like my side," explained Hodgson. "But it is still a team that I have not put together. I want to make that clear. I took the team over and I have not made that many changes.

"I brought in [Paul] Konchesky to play left-back, Raul Meireles to replace [Javier] Mascherano and Joe Cole came in at the same time as me as well as Christian Poulsen. The other players I have inherited.

"I think I would be a good comparison with Tottenham because Harry [Redknapp] came in there just as I came into Fulham so he will just be completing three years and he has brought in a lot of players. So to really call it my team, I would have had to make a slightly bigger impact on those who have been brought in.

"I am more than happy to take responsibility for this squad but it takes a coach more than five or six months to make his stamp on a club.
"I am hoping we will do some good business in transfer windows to come and then I will be able say, 'If you don't like it then I have no one to blame but myself'."
