I just don't see it or hear it I'm afraid. I think a lot of the things he says get jumped on and turned into something he never meant. Thats why I wanted to see if there was others here like me. I'm off to the doctor, there obviously something wrong with me. Seriously though, I'm in the minority here so far so I respect that and will bow to all your greater knowledge.

I'd be interested to know why people voted 'don't care'. Is it 'don't care about the issue' (in which case why bother voting?!), or 'don't care whether it's fair or not because I hate him anyway', or what?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I think he's made himself open to all sorts of criticism, especially around his illadvised attempts at lowering expectation. But I am also saddened at the abusive way many of us are voicing our criticism and frustration.

People do learn lessons, Roy is not entirely useless, he's had succeses but hasn't done well in the big jobs (LFC and Inter). Can he learn from his mistakes and adapt or not? You have to give him until the end of the season* and hope he's getting objective and constructive feedback from within the club to help him learn those lessons.

        * Unless there's a top class alternative option available.

I'm willing to give him until the end of the season before I go on the attack. Things are progressing slowly albeit from a very low starting position.

I think peoples expectations have gone way out of touch with reality, which only adds to the pressure on Roy.

I would add that the internet is a very powerful medium for spreading opinion and generating pressure, something an old schooler like Roy isn't familiar with. John Henry certainly appreciates this aspect.

You cant expect someone to turn this team into something that wins every match it plays and becomes tactilly different overnight. Added to this the fact that there are at least 3 or 4 teams ahead of us in terms of progress towards a fluent attacking force, we will have to make monumental changes to overhaul them.

If Rafa hadnt won the CL the past 10 years since the Houllier treble/quadruple havent exactly been scintillating stuff so to want or even expect a team that in some people's expectations is invicible and all-conquering is way off the mark.

Do we really want to turn into another of those clubs that rattles through managers just because the fans/media expect instant success or are we prepared to give them, the players and the management the opportunity to build and develop something special?

He deserves at least a season, if not longer.

I'd be delighted if he was sacked tonight as i don't believe he is the right man for the job. However i do think the criticism is OTT at times and a bit uncalled for.

Some people are looking for the smallest little thing to have another pop at him and that's not right...ie after our Europa game last thurs night, people were calling for Pacheco, Babel, Kelly, Jova etc to be given a chance(i was too) then post-match Hodgson was getting stick for playing Pacheco wide right and all this ****e - sometimes he can't win
            - At least he played the lad ffs, besides Babel and Jova did alright upfront for us.

Times have changed. Managers used to be judged on results. You'd get the newspapers during the week, football focus on a saturday, and then the managers notes in the program. Now its a media frenzy with demand on sound bites and quotes hourly. Roy is certainly week and modern communicating but if results turn positive will people really care all that much what he says. He seems to be able to communicate with the players which is vital although this quote says it all about Roy communication skills ...Hodgson added: "Maxi Rodriguez is a very intelligent player. Despite the fact I do not speak Spanish and he doesn't speak that much English, we've always had a good understanding together". He'd be a great partner for pictonary!!

It's an interesting point about him being around during the changeover although I'm not convinced. But if change is needed and it's going to take time then I don't see him as the appropriate person to oversee it. In other words, the time for a caretaker is over.

As for it being a results business, I don't like him and I never will even if he wins us the league. I mean, obviously I'll like it if he did that but I am never going to warm to him. Not that it matters - he won't win the league anyway.

: 'Are you from Denmark?' Hodgson asked (he considers the Danish press too negative). 'No, Norway,' replied the visitor. 'Ah, two countries I never want to work in again,' he said.

                - 'Is Torres better off playing as a lone striker or with someone alongside him?' Hodgson : 'I don't know'

Talking about the potential protest against the then owners, Hicks and Gillett before Sunderland: "When you've got a group of people protesting at the games, it doesn't help."

                August 24th
                - "Hopefully in the next 36 games we can take some points"

Before the Manchester United game: " I've been involved in some big derbies in my career and you know how much they mean to the fans. It compares with Inter v Juventus. The Milan derby was a big occasion but the derby d'Italia was the real killer one, as it were. I didn't like losing in those games, which I did quite often. I did poorly so it would be nice to change that" - Liverpool lost 3-2

In regards Liverpool's worst start for 56 years:
                "I couldn't give a monkey's whether we're 16th or 18th at the moment."

After the 2-0 loss to Everton:
''I hope that fair-minded people see the game the same way. I think it’s a bit unfortunate that after such a good game of football, everything revolves around the fact that Liverpool didn’t win it.”

After the protests against the owners for the Sunderland game: "those people aren't making my job any easier"

On his special relationship with our nemesis Alex Ferguson:
“I know Mr Ferguson is not really a Liverpool man,” said Hodgson, “so I’m a bit concerned about my excellent relationship with him. “I sincerely hope he forgives me for moving north and hopefully we can have a glass of wine together, maybe in secret."

“We didn’t score goals and Everton did but I refuse to accept that we were in any way outplayed or any way inferior. I watched the performance and the second half was as good as I saw a Liverpool team play under my management that is for sure.” Liverpool had just been completely outplayed and lost 2-0 to their local rivals

When questioned on the way to get the best out of a Liverpool team full of different types of players to Fulham:
"What do you mean do my methods translate? They have translated from Halmsteds to Malmo to Orebo to Neuchatel Xamax to the Swiss national team."

                On signing Poulsen:
"For me, it was a very simple decision when I heard he - Poulsen - might be available at what we considered to be a very reasonable price. We need as many good players as we can get and if you let these opportunities pass you by, sometimes you can regret it."

                On Liverpool conceding goals
                - "It is a problem we are letting in goals but with the offensive line-up we have that is going to be a risk." - Liverpool have managed just 7 goals in the league thus far, 15 less than the same stage last season

After the draw against Sunderland: "They were formidable opposition"

When questioned about Liverpool's poor form continuing to Christmas, whether he would consider his position for the good of the club:

Scapegoating the team he picked for Northampton and essentially telling players that they are deemed not good enough: "We had a very bad result on Wednesday night but it should not affect the 11 players who are going to start the game on Saturday because they weren't part of the game."

On the pressure he is under at Liverpool -
"I think it would be a sad day for football and for Liverpool if someone who had been brought in with the pomp and circumstance, and the money it took them to release me from my previous contract, and being feted as one of England's best managers – if after eight games people are deciding this guy has got to go".

He should never have been here in the first place, that's why we want him gone, so as to cause less harm as possible in the long term. Nothing about 'rattling managers' here. The former manager was given 6 years.

Both, I think. We've had a lot of formidable opponents this season.

Let's not forget our 'famous victory' away in Turkey in the Europa League qualifiers.

Last season aside we were established in the top 4, nearly won the league in 2008, put in some excellent performances and acted like a big club. I want to defend Roy from some of the excessive criticisms, but we shouldn't try to re-write history to achieve that.
