He was certainly very critical of us supporters in wanting rid of RoyOriginally posted by rcasemore View Postpretty sure he was quite vocal in speaking out against Rafa.
I distinctly remember him tweeting in October 2010 that we were "idiots to want Roy out and that he would eat our words by December"

And I'm saying it may not have racist connotations because it's not as culturally stigmatised. The use of a 'non racist' word to describe race when used in the context of insulting someone is still racist (I assume here that his comments were in some way derogatory overall). e.g you Afro-Caribbean idiot. The translation is pretty much irrelevant if whatever you settle on only applies to one race.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostThe argument is not that racism is commonplace in South America, it's that what he said did not have any racist connotations. They will presumably have argued that adding a racial element to the charge would be an ignorant assumption based on the similarity to the English 'negro' and/or the way it translates literally rather than an understanding of what the usage connotes.
Of course, Evra's side can argue Suarez knew full well what it would be construed as. Or that not realising is no excuse.
I'd also say that if he has admitted using the word negro, the onus is on Suarez to justify it's use, rather than Evra's representatives having to he knew.
This pretty much sums it up:

As the word negro is simply Spanish for the word black I fail to see what is remotely racist about that? Do black people object to being referred to as black?Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI'd also say that if he has admitted using the word negro, the onus is on Suarez to justify it's use, rather than Evra's representatives having to he knew.

I don't think black people object to being called black at all, apart from Evra obviously. Music Of Black Origin - what's that if it's not a reference to music originating from Africa or the Caribbean? I have never heard a black person take offence by being referred to as black. If the word is preceded or succeeded by an offensive word then of course it's racist, but to refer to someone as black seems quite normal if they are indeed black.
