Three years ago this month, Patrice Evra was damned by an FA regulatory commission for supplying “exaggerated, ridiculous and far-fetched” evidence following allegations of racism during the infamous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ with Chelsea groundstaff in April 2008.
On that occasion, Evra was fined £15,000 and hit with a four-match suspension as punishment for his part in the post-match brawl at Stamford Bridge, following United’s defeat against Chelsea, which resulted in the Senegal-born defender claiming to have been called a “------- immigrant” by Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell.
The FA’s verdict, greeted with fury by United, literally accused Evra of ‘crying wolf’ by invoking claims of racism, so his decision to report Suarez for racist abuse following the Premier League draw with Liverpool at Anfield in October was bold and not without risk.Cheers chaps.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYes 3 times (once with Finnan I think)
Thought I'd read somewhere about him talking to the ref about a decision and hoisting the 'cos I'm black' card (so to speak). Thought I'd read that the ref made a note of it.
The penalty that this panel of pricks has imposed won't stand.Last edited by mick the click; 20-12-11, 11:31 PM.

How can English FA not truly understand the international nature of its players and the modern game? I do not get how they can sully Luis Suarez's reputation like this knowing full well his use of this word is not intended to be racist nor is it considered a racist term in the linguistic context from which it comes. I just don't get how this panel could look at this information and draw this conclusion unless their own stereotypes and assumptions are playing into their understanding. It's ridiculous. I hope Suarez knows the level of support he has. Personally, I don't take racism, homophobia or any of that as a joke or a small thing, but regardless of which club you support, this decision is clearly more about the FA's own lack of understanding of the cultural diversity of its own game than it is about what Luis Suarez meant when he said "negrito"."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

The more I think about it the more angry I get - he's an innocent man who could have his life totally wrecked, there is no way he won't be able to clear his name. They can't make a judgement on someone's life without proper legal due course. Surely they had a duty to refer Evra's complaint to the police anyway?Hello mert.

This is exactly what it looks like to an outsider and a person who can make a rational decision. These types of people don't come into power, because they generally aren't corrupt and greedy and will do what it takes to come into a position of power. You don't get to the top of the food chain (in footballing terms) by being a nice guy. It's about who you know and the backhanders. It goes for many other facets of life. Look at politics in general. Look at corporations.Originally posted by BrooklynRed View PostHow can English FA not truly understand the international nature of its players and the modern game? The club's response is suitably scathing I think.
It's an incredible decision if they really haven't got any evidence other than Evra's..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

The ban wont start for 14 days.Originally posted by Mostar View PostI am not sure about that.
We'll play 11 games in all competitions before faced them I think ban is applicable to all matches including FA and Carling Cup not just EPL games.
Obviously it will depend on when he'll start serving his ban and if the ban will be upheld or reduced.
