French football has been hit by another race controversy after a professional footballer says he was racially abused by a linesman.

Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) is investigating claims by Auxerre midfielder Kamel Chafni that linesman Johann Perruax had made a slur against him during his team's 1-0 defeat to Brest on Saturday.

Morrocan Chafni, who was sent off for protesting the alleged remarks, told French sports newspaper L'Equipe that he had told Perruax that he had failed to spot Brest defender Gregory Lorenzi's foul on Auxerre forward Roy Contout.

"There was a foul that wasn't signalled, I went toward the linesman and told him that it wasn't normal," Chafni told L'Equipe. "He answered 'Get lost, Arab.'"

Chafni says he then went to protest to Chapron about the abuse and received two consecutive yellow cards.

"I went to see the referee, I explained to him what happened," Chafni said. "He showed me a yellow card, I told him, repeated (to him) that it was unacceptable, and he shows me a red (card)."

Chafni says that Contout, Brest forward Larsen Toure and Brest's physiotherapist all heard Perruax's racial slur and he wants Perruax to be punished.

"(I) want to go all the way with this. It's serious, it goes beyond sport," he said. "I hope the league opens an inquiry and will clamp down. If they don't believe me, my place is no longer in French football. I'm outraged."

In a statement released on Monday, LFP president Frederic Thiriez had ordered an inquiry to be opened immediately "so that light is shed on this matter as quickly as possible". Thiriez took the decision after speaking with Auxerre president Gerard Bourgoin, the league's head of referees Marc Batta, and match referee Tony Chapron.

But Chapron said after the match that he "categorically denies there may have been racist remarks levelled at Chafni" by Perruax, adding that he knows Perruax and that it would be entirely out of character.

Chafni intends to file a complaint at his local police station.

"I'm really outraged by what happened," club president Bourgoin told the RMC radio station.

It will be interesting to see how this is handled.

Similar to what Evra said to Suarez.

I think the main point in any complaint should be that if the panel was supposed to be independent then there should be no-one on the FA from it, and the FA shouldn't have control over the choice of panel members.

Fair enough we had right of veto over the panel members, but exercising this right just means that the FA appoint someone else. It therefore isn't an independent panel, it is a panel of people selected by the FA. IMO if we are going to make a complaint it shouldn't be about the actual people on the panel but about the FA having control over the make up of it.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Would've been more interesting if it had happened here.

My line of attack is what are Goulding's credentials? He's an employment law specialist.

Red Davie, how relevant is that?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Is calling someone a 'black c....' racist? Spoke to a black player today who said racism is words like 'c..n', n-word, 'w..' etc. Don't know
From the rag who branded Suarez a racist. I know it was inevitable that the same rags who smeared Suarez would somehow defend Terry, but this is just ****ing ridiculous.

Incredible, Holt has imploded any credibility he had, if any, with that comment, after his stance on what Suarez said.

Did he ever have any credibility?

It gets better, he's just tweeted this:

So now the same people who have been defending Suarez over use of racist language want to hang another player for same thing. V predictable
He's either being deliberately obtuse or, as i suspect, he's actually genuinely very very thick.
