I have no sympathy for Evra whatsoever, if it's true that he accused the referee of booking him because he is black then he deserves twice the ban that Suarez has received.

Fell sorry for both Evra and Suarez in some ways. The latter really should however make some statement of apology/explanation. I suspect the whole legal/FA process might make that difficult, but it would be more helpful than some statements that have come out of the club.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's been blown out of all proportion on purpose, this was never going to stop at an apology, not taking everything and everyone involved into account imo, too much stuff going on behind the scenes probably, Fergies link to Gill will have been handy!
Whole thing stinks!Last edited by Vermilion; 27-12-11, 10:19 PM.

**** knows mate. I read it online somewhere last week. I've read so much stuff about it all I can't remember where. I can't find anything to back it up mind but at least 1 member of the "independent" panel has been proven to be anything but which is 1 too many.Originally posted by JohnOK View PostWhere have you heard that Fergie co owns the horse with the QC?

I've read this before. Is it proven? I hope it is.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI have no sympathy for Evra whatsoever, if it's true that he accused the referee of booking him because he is black then he deserves twice the ban that Suarez has received.
Precisely.Originally posted by cream View Post"I don’t know much about South American culture and slang".
Stopped reading after that...
IMO evra comes out of this looking like the cnut he is. If this was the first time he'd pulled the race card, his opinion might still have credibility. However, it's not the first time.
Evra: "Is it 'cos I am black?"
World: "Nah. It's 'cos you is a pillock."

I can't help thinking that this mess has set things back significantly. The FA could and should have dealt with it in the best interests of football and instead they have actually made everything much more confusing. The debate has been good, people are talking about what should and should not be acceptable. The FA could have embraced the debate and dealt with the incident sensibly and made things better for the future. Instead they have intensified hatred between us and the Mancs.

I think Luis comments about calling Evra the same as his team mates shows this not to be the case.Originally posted by destinydude View PostFor that to have happened, Suarez must be knowing that 'negrito' was the word with which Evra took offense. I really don't think Suarez knew what it meant and if that was the particular word that caused the whole issue.
having said that, if Evra wanted an apology he could have lodged a complaint with us threatening to tell the FA than running directly to them. He knew what he was doing. He did not want an apology and after all the ruckus I'd be livid if Suarez apologises to him.
It's him who has taken all the heat for a complete non starter of an alleged offense
And whether Evra was looking for an apology or not I still feel it would have been the right thing to do. A lot of the heat has come from the nature of our response.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I think that's the issue, finding someone in English football who isn't a friend of Ferguson or Dalglish would be almost impossible.Originally posted by PoolG View PostThe fact that Smith is a friend of ferguson is fact. The other, who knows.
IMO we didn't veto cos we probably didn't think there was anyway they would/could convict despite the obvious clash of interests. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think judging by the comments alot of people (journalists, pundits, ex-players people running the game etc) have been making in response to this it IMO shows that there is more of a problem in English football (or at least naivity about the issue) than we knew/care to admit.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI can't help thinking that this mess has set things back significantly. The FA's policy is shaky at best and alot of the comments attacking racism have been very intolerant and bordering on racism themselves. The English game hasn't come out of this looking good at all.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
