I don't see the difference between generalising on a small scale or a big scale? Generalisation is generalisation. I think we would do well to scrap the term racism altogether because it's far too difficult to clearly define. Discrimination is wrong, but I could consider the people who live in the street next to mine as inferior and then surely that is also racism? I don't think that it is, but if discriminating against Welsh people is racism then so is discrimination against people from Let'sbe Avenue.

There lies the crux of the problem. It's all on the same spectrum. Biologically, there is no such thing as a discrete race. You could argue that any ethnic prejudice could be called racism, but I think racism is a word that has rightly been associated with prejudices that go hand in hand with the false concept of racial difference. Not that other types of prejudice are any less stupid or wrong.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostWe've been discussing racism for quite a while now and I understand it less than I did a few months ago. I haven't seen a definition of racism that makes sense. It seems easy to define racism between a typical white person and a typical black person, but the majority of people on the planet can't be pigeon-holed so easily. We're all mixed race. Who are the indigenous British people anyway?! I'm from Irish stock and my girlfriend is of Welsh descent, but we're both from Merseyside - how ethnically different are we really?Like blood on iron

Or Maybe its because his organisation is anti-racism? So anything to ease future problems could be helpful. Not everyone has an agenda all of the time.Originally posted by JHP View PostLord Ouseley slams Suarez but now hopes there can be a handshake and reconciliation between Terry & Ferdinand. Is it because he and his organisation is funded by The FA and Manchester United? Why does he seem to have double standards?

No, but he clearly had an agenda in the Suarez matter.Originally posted by Alex View PostOr Maybe its because his organisation is anti-racism? So anything to ease future problems could be helpful. Not everyone has an agenda all of the time.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

His organisation requested that a verdict in the Suarez case be proved beyond doubt, then was prepared to condemn Suarez, Liverpool FC, its players and manager, on a verdict based on probability.Originally posted by Alex View PostOr Maybe its because his organisation is anti-racism? He used the abuse of the Oldham player as a stick to beat Liverpool with even though it is a legal matter, whilst refusing to speak about the Terry/Ferdinand case because it is a legal matter.
He is a director of the Manchester United Foundation which at the very least would give reason to suggest a conflict of interest in the Suarez/Evra case.
His organisation is indeed anti-racism and Im sure he is too, but he hasnt played his part very well recently. (IMHO)"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

So how do you explain his double standards? Because he is black and leads an organisation (rightly) fighting racism doesn't mean he can't be a hypocrite.Originally posted by Alex View PostOr Maybe its because his organisation is anti-racism? I just don't see the merit in tarring this guy with the same brush for everything he does. Fair enough he didn't seem too cover himself with gold during the Suarez/Evra case. But its not fair too have peoples perceptions of him from that spill over into other cases. It makes us Liverpool fans seem bitter if we keep on at him.
We need to move on. We have been dicked over. Draw a line and learn from it.*Except Michael, who died.

I admire your ability to take a magnanimous position. I can't. I've always been against racism and injustice.
I find it really difficult to accept that someone so obviously against racism can feel so at ease with injustice. I understand he can have a different perspective but I suspect he's just being political and prepared to carry a few casualties on the way.
