Our most successful time under Rafa. But, he did have Gerrard to rely on (back in the days when we were called a one man teamOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostFirst year or two, he was making do with the likes of biscan and traore. His last year was dreadful.
In between that, we were consistently qualifying for the CL with our eyes closed and one of europe's top clubs.
)
Another MASSIVE game

If you look at our squad we should have plenty of players capable of scoring goals:Originally posted by Arn View PostAnd who is our only goal threat? The answer is Suarez. You don't really expect anyone else to score. That is why I predicted some fantasy scores in our latest games and Suarez to score almost all of them.
Is it money well spent when we only have one goal threat?
I would even say that Morgan would have done better than Carroll. So why splash out £35m on a player instead of giving him a chance?
Is Carroll really that much better than Morgan? Would Morgan missed sitter after sitter the way Carroll do?
Carroll is probably the better player but Morgan is no doubt the better finisher.
- Gerrard, Kuyt and Maxi have all scored 10 or more goals in a season for us.
- Bellamy, Carroll and Adam have all scored 10 or more goals in a season for other clubs in England.
- Suarez has a great goal scoring record in Holland and has done well during his time here.
That's 7 players who should present a reasonable goal treat when they are on the pitch, admittedly not all those players will be on the pitch at the same time, but typically we could expect at least 4 of them to be on the pitch at any point.
The problem at the moment is we're just not sticking chances away maybe it's form or luck or maybe something elseThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

In terms of fluid attacking play with lots of movement, interplay, passing, guile, creativity etc.. etc... some of the games in his first season in charge were the best "football"Originally posted by Craig_H View Post
Were you hibernating during Spring 2009?
We were very Valencia like during that time particularly at home (games such as Norwich & City spring to mind)
We did really well during 2009 and controlled games but we lacked imagination in the final 3rd. We pressed teams and put them under pressure but in terms of incisive open play we lacked a cutting edge
I thought our football under Kenny last season is the best we've produced for a long time. This season has lived up to those standards but it is still more open and attacking than Rafa's
I dont think we have been dreadful this season, not as exhilirating as back half of last season but we've created chances and opened teams up but we have consistantly failed to put chances away. Whilst we have looked more open at the backBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

As I made the similar point in the different thread we need a poacher type of a striker that can convert those chances at much higher percentage than Suarez and/or Carroll.
All others (most of those are either not playing or injured) can contribute to the goal scoring record but they are not the solution.
We need to go out and buy ourselves a proven scorer as soon as possible.Last edited by Mostar; 06-11-11, 05:11 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

The whole team has to up their game in terms of scoring goalsOriginally posted by Mattshark View PostAdam has only got 1 of those goals last season from open play though, a lot were penalties. We need goals from open play in midfield too.
ALL of them (Suarez included) have under performed in this department
You can only hit the bar or have keepers make save after save against you so many times before you start questioning the percentage level of conversion of chances
We should be doing much better in front of goal
As I said earlier in this thread there was a stat I heard over the weekend that stated Suarez had only converted about 11% (or was it 15% cant remember) of the “goal-scoring chances” he’d had – thats a poor percentage for a player of his undoubted qualityBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. Feb-May 2009 we were battering everyone and playing the best football we've ever played since Kenny's last stint. Lacked imagination??
