The saddest eye opener for me today was when Downing, yes fcking Giraffe Downing made Gerrard his b*tch in the first 10 minutes of the game (i.e. fresh legs for both players).

Look from 6:08 min forward until the goal just to pick a moment.

Look at his tracking. It is impossible to play a decent game in a back 4 with tracking like that. There is no discipline or sense of positioning. There never was ffs. He was never any good at defending. It's not something new. We all knew this and agreed on it. It was never his job either and was so good going forward it didn't matter.

If you can't spot the complete lack of quality at HM you just know dick all about football in my book.

I think we've 'created' that position for Gerrard to keep him engaged. But now teams are beginning to work this out.

We don't 'need' anyone to sit in his position. Rodgers has many tactics up his sleeve using players differently but is hamstrung by having to fit Gerrard in. If he's rested for a few PL games I can see Rodgers all excited like a child with a new toy.

I disagree. All great teams need a holding midfielder, its just Gerrard is not a holding midfielder and never will be. Its the ultimate in selfless roles, doing nothing but plugging holes. Hamman is still the best I have seen play that position, and the vital cog in Houlliers team. Benitez team only came to fruition once he bought Mascherano in.

Gerarrd can still pick a pass, and should be deployed alongside Henderson, not behind him.

Couple of points

Does Rogers have the bottle to drop Gerrard ? I don't think he does

Should we bring in a defensive coach or is Mignolet the problem and the back four suffer as they have no confidence in him and this causes them to make mistakes

Would anyone bring in Brad Jones for a couple of games ?

Well anyway, the positives from today are:

1. Lallana looked a little better. Not great but squad wise getting there.
2. Coutinho's had a little break, he plays like a worldie when he comes back from these breaks
3. Sterling scored
4. He was my captain on FF
5. We scored in the 17th straight away game, a club record
6. Rodgers will still look to change tactics in-game if his starting tactics are poor
7. We have a cup game on Tuesday, shame Ibe and Tex are not here to show their wares but Allen can get a run out. Maybe Sturridge too?
