It might well be the mindset of the manager though. Wrap up the league early, and then be able to rest his best players, or those carrying a niggle, before big CL games.

Look at it the other way around. At what point does the desire and incentive to win diminish? All humans are affected by these things no matter how professional.

If we win and City beat Chelsea that’s us 7 clear of 5th.

This season? No very often thankfully. Only so called lesser team to beat us in the league has been Swansea. We have a few draws against such teams, but save for City I would guess that we have fared as well as, or better than, the rest of the top five against those so called lesser teams this season.

Im sure I've read recently our PPG against the lower sides is excellent I think for a lot of us it's just ingrained from years of this happening.

Nearly there, even accounting for getting screwed over by corruption next weekend.

Chelsea winning all their games still may not be enough for them and they've lost 4 of their last 5 getting outclassed by the likes of Bournemouth and Watford so that's not happening anyway. Just beating all the trash we have left at home would do it but obv need a bit more for 2nd which is well within our grasp.
