Guessing he thinks it denies us a place. Pretty sure that the only thing that denies 4th place is the winner finishing outside top 4.

In other words, us finishing 5th and winning it would deny the team finishing 4th. Presumably only if Arsenal won the EL

The EL winner has no bearing on teams finishing top 4 unless the winner of the CL finishes outside the top four. Only us and City can win it and City can't finish outside the top four which leaves us. We will only miss out if we finish 5th or below

We finished 4th last year and United won the EL. Both of us went into the CL.

No, just means there would be 5 PL teams in the CL again. As there was this season after Utd won the Europa League and finished outside the top 4.

I honestly couldn't care less if we finish 2nd or 4th, qualification again after a hard campaign is all we need. ****ing off Chelsea with a few games left would be huge as we could rest playets for the final

I know it's not such a big reason for the fans but financially there is a huge difference in the proportion of the English CL revenue you get based on where you finish.

I believe that finishing top gets 40%, 2nd place 30%, 3rd 20% and 4th 10%. There are obviously other factors to take into account when looking at total CL revenue. But for a side like us who aren't being bankrolled and need to build our squad the difference between 2nd and 4th could mean buying another player.

But progression is more valuable to total revenue. We wouod top Chelsea's income if we made the final, by quite some sum this year for example.

Yeah but this would be an extra guaranteed £20m+ for next year regardless of performance in CL.

Obviously it would be a modest percentage of total revenue if you win the trophy, but it's significant if you go out early. But either way we aren't being bankrolled so an extra £20m+ is useful for us.

I do think it is important to finish higher than 4th because it would show improvement. Yes it's been a good season but we still went out of domestic cups too early. A deep run into CL and a 2nd or 3rd place would show improvement.

According to the rules for the 2018/19 CL

Four teams from England, Germany, Spain and Italy, plus the reigning champions of both European competitions, are assured of Champions League group stage places

So top four in the league are straight through to the group stages plus the Europa league winner if that was an English team
