Talented kid but seems a bit lost in our setup and struggling with the pace of the league. I'm struggling to see where he fits in under Klopp. He's scored a few goals for us but he's largely anonymous in games. I do wonder what's our plan for him because at the moment it looks like either we have none or he just not doing what we want?
People keep saying he's for the Bobby role but he's nothing like Bobby & imo he plays at his best when he's driving forward, we've only seen that a few times (more of what we thought we would get with Ox type thing breaking lines). I confess I didn't see much of him for PSV but in the world cup he scored some lovely goals but was so quiet in their games. I'm just not sure what he is really is what i'm trying to say.
Disclaimer: Much like Nunez, I am not writing him off! Just pointing out the obvious. You'll know when i'm writing him off ... see Keita thread.Last edited by danperkins; 12-04-23, 02:01 PM.

That's where I'm at. His comments not so long ago were a bit strange, talking about how he hadn't spoken with Klopp about his long term position.
I can't see it with him to be honest just yet. The way a lot of folk talk about him, I feel we all want him to succeed, but we're too afraid to say that we're not quite sure what we have, so we'll big up every good thing he does.
Saying that, I think he should be given a free hit until next season. If he was playing like this after a full pre-season, I'd be mightily concerned, but 3 months in, a new system, a new league. Let him use the time to learn the league, his teammates, and start afresh in pre-season. We're in such a mess all over the club, I feel sorry for him coming into this.

absolutely. He'll get next season like Darwin to improve and show what they can do. Disappointing both haven't hit the ground running but sure the season has been a **** show so what can ye do.

He has been a puzzling signing for me, talk of him playing on the left, but presumably doesn't get in the side ahead of Diaz there, he looks like he might be best in the 'Firmino role' but we have Nunez who we spent alot of money on 6 months earlier to play as a central striker. He can play a left midfield role, but our midfield has been a problem area and we haven't tried him there yet.
From what I had seen of him before he came here he looked a good player, I don't want to judge him on his limited time here as the side hasn't been playing well and that makes it harder to settle and there have been alot of players missing through injury etc. But I do worry that we don't have a plan for him, and for me that was the big problem with alot of our signings in the 90's and early 2000's there were talented players but we never knew what to do to get the best out of them. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I heard yesterday on midday talk sport that the one PL game is the equivalent to two and half European games in terms of effort and exertion. this came from 2 players who had both played in the PL and abroad, I can't remember the names but it does point to a settling in scenario and also why legs have goneI make no apologies, this is me

I’ve always thought he had the look of an attacking midfielder to me. Someone in the David Platt sort of mould who arrives in the box late and scores lots of goals. Seems to have the physical qualities to get involved in midfield as well. Hope so anyway. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

That first touch was outstanding, and as you say great composure to play the pass. He really does look like Firmino 2.0, something I would never have spotted in those first few weeks at the club.Originally posted by peterbread View PostThe assist for the fourth goal was great, real composure and awareness.
Buzzing now we have all 6 forwards fit and firing. Just need to get Diaz going and we'll be rocking. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He's looking to be a very quick learner. No wonder Klopp waxes lyrical about him. Link-up play is much better, quick at turning with the ball and driving forward, making aerial duels too.
Still a lot to do, but the signs are promising, and a full pre-season under his belt, with a fully fit Diaz could produce some ejaculatory stuff next year.
It still leaves a question mark around Nunez, but that's for another thread.

Seeing gakpo driving forward through our midfield and into the final third is the sort of stuff that gets the crowd off their seats. Ideally he'd be in midfield so we can better use his ability to rampage up the pitch.
Diaz and salah either side, and nunez up front ready to run onto a through ball or a cut back from the wide players.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
