Fingers crossed.
A new CB partner for virgil will be interesting though. Especially if he can't play every game next season
That might be why we are linked with Micky VdV?? Because they are used to playing with each other already and also because he has the potential to take over as main man then the following season???

Think DeLigt and de Vrij have partnered VVD more for the Dutch team with VDV being the guy that gets subbed on if VVD goes off or if VVD does not play.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostFingers crossed.

VDV tends to play as a LCB for club and country, same position as VVD.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I expect that Slot would have been consulted and been at the table, so to speak, when the decisions on transfers were being made. I also suspect that everyone around that table would have known that building a squad was not what Slot was brought in for. Building a squad was what Hughes was brought in for. As such, Slot might of had a veto on certain decisions e.g. Elliott sale, but others would have been taken and he would have been informed that it was for the best. I'd place selling Diaz in that category. I don't have any insider info to confirm it but his decisions on Rio's minutes and persistence with Gakpo point to this.Originally posted by frank the tank View Post
Agree but surely Slot would be at the table in terms of squad building as well. For example, there is no way that LFC would go and buy Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz for 300m if Arne wasn't balls deep on board with it. They wouldn't have sold Quansah if he was in Arnes plans. They would have sat down with Slot, identifying that Leoni was a better prospect than Quansah and more suited to Arne-ball and made moves on that.
So for me, for Slot to be talking about red zones etc now then that is frustrating. But I think it is the way he communicates it is what is the frustrating part. If the plan was that Leoni would be in place by now and a mainstay in the team then that is understandably ****.
It is obvious that there will need to be another 5 or 6 players signed in the summer. And that would have always been the plan. One big issue is that our new players this season wont be fully integrated yet by next season.
In terms of players settling in; I don't think any of the summer 2025 intake will have that as an excuse. Any that aren't useful to us next season can be considered bad signings. Not necessarily bad players but not for us at this time.
I think we need at least two centre backs to replace Konate and Gomez. One should be a senior player to start alongside VVD. The other, a younger player to share minutes with Leoni, who I still have big hopes for. I don't know where MVDV fits in this as he is not a youngster and his record would suggest he's too injury prone to be a regular starter. Perhaps our fitness geeks think they can fix him like they fixed Ibou. Time will tell I suppose.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostFingers crossed.

The one with potential to totally throw us off is how we succession plan VVD. Like-for-like isn't possible. A player like that emerges once a generation or two. Some say he is past his best and that may be true but he's still up there as one of the top centre halves in word football today. I will be very sad when he calls it a day. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

What the **** is saying that supposed to achieve or prove?
It also makes me think - for no real related reason - that the absolute writing off of the end of last season was very small time. Coaches need to be kinda maniacal and tolerate very little. Slot seems way too mellow. It worked for 2/3rds of last season but hasn't worked since. This has tipped me into get-rid-now territory but I'm not convinced by anyone that's available.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

feel exactly the same. I'm not as convinced by Alonso as other seem but we need a jump start in this team and we need it now.

I’d like to see slot getting proper angry, maybe grow a beard, smash the whiteboard at halftime, maybe get Salah in an arm bar…. just something to show a bit more aggression, I feel there is a group of high ranking players walking all over him at the moment.Originally posted by danperkins View Post

I hope that is not the case. If so, we would need to get rid of those players as well as the coach, in order to avoid them exerting the same influence on future appointments. This would be a worst case scenario for me.Originally posted by kingfunk View PostI’d like to see slot getting proper angry, maybe grow a beard, smash the whiteboard at halftime, maybe get Salah in an arm bar…. just something to show a bit more aggression, I feel there is a group of high ranking players walking all over him at the moment. It's easy to distract fat people. I'm getting serious Brendan vibes off Slot tbh, seems like last season he had a good effect on the team, the team could use being more compact and methodical at times, but he's gone too far and this is the most boring and sterile team in the league today.
Hughes and Edwards are not blameless either, and I feel we are back to being too clever for our own good. Slot needs to, I don't even feel like watching these days.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I like to see a bit of emotion aswell, he just doesn't seem that type of guy. A show of passion can lift players and fans. There does seem like there is a clique still there alright, not a good thing but then again imo Slot isn't the guy long term for us.

Hughes and Edward's have to share some of the blame for the lack of balance in the squad. Our summer signings have made us look a bit silly in terms of depth and necessity. Unitedesque

I get what everyone is saying about Slot but I don't understand why Slot and Edwards are getting all the blame as well. No one has a ****ing clue what they do, no one knows them personally or has any insider knowledge so why are they getting grief as well?Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
