Agreed, if Hoeneß is a candidate, then Marco Rose and Francesco Farioli should be in the mix too - both from the Red Bull stable working under Klopp at the moment. All a little bit premature for me. It would be similar to us having taken a risk on Klopp from Mainz.

Marco Rose was sacked by RB Leipzig a year ago and has been out of work since.

Farioli has never been at a Red Bull team, though currently having an outstanding first season at Porto. Too inexperienced for Liverpool yet though. 36 and never been anywhere longer than a season.

What about Nagelsmann? He will be after a job after the World cup?

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It is a weak league in terms of sheer quality and spectacle. It is a weak league in terms of how lacking it is in free flowing football. It is a weak league in terms of clever tactics etc. Imo to all that and the next bit of course.

But in terms of physicality, wars of sheer attrition, diving/cheating/timewasting, and a lessening gap in terms of physical output (distances run/ active presses etc) I think it is the league in Europe with possible the highest levels of those things and those are things that the so called lesser teams can now match the big teams for.

So we go to play in Europe and we meet teams that want to beat us at football, that want to go at it tactically and that will do less of the simulation crap (usually but not always on that latter bit) and against those team we will do well as we have the talent in our team to play football when allowed and when the other team does not have the ability to out run/out physical us.

PSG I am not really that worried about. Last year we met a more dominant PSG team at a time when we were out on our legs and they still needed penalties to get past us (that super show by Ali in the first league did not hurt either ) .

Though when I say I am not worried about PSG that does not mean I think they will be easy or that they do not have the ability to punish us badly, it is just that they will come at us and look to play football. On our day we can go toe to toe with that and to be fair against that sort of team coming at us we tend to have a lot of good days.

Same with whichever team wins out of Real and Bayern. If we are lucky enough to get past PSG then we meet another very good team that will come at us and give us chances to go at them.

Think the other side of the draw, the "easier" side has more teams in it that would give us harder games than the better team in our side of the draw.

There is also another issue a new guy coming in right now would have. There would be next to nothing he could do about the conditioning of our squad in the short term so any changes in tactics, pressing etc would still be dictated to by that, and if there is a general malaise amongst the non new players that has lingered since the summer (and Kelleher came out and said just that in his recent interview. That most of the players he used to play with did not care about this season and that it was written off from the start by many), then a new guy gets a squad containing players that have already given up on the season for the most part. Is another reason why I think a new guy coming in at the start of the summer gets an easier ride of it.

Much easier to draw a line under a period you had no part of than doing so under one you came in and were a part of yourself.
I think we will know the true strength of the prem by how many English sides are in the latter stages of each European competition. 100% though the prem has become about pace and power. That's not to say that certain European sides don't also possess this but the prem really seems to dominate the physicality side of football. I like that but the technical, skill, guile, creativity side of the prem has fallen off a cliff imo and it's just so **** to watch. I would argue once again that the general level across all the leagues is at its lowest in decades. PSG are still good but not as good as last year, Barca and Madrid are a shadow of their former selves, Bayern are nearly men, City are not the same team, Chelsea are bang average, we are bang average and Arsenal are effective but hideous to watch.

PSG absolutely battered us last season in the first leg when we somehow won and by some miracle we made it through that extra time at Anfield to penalties, lets hope they don't ressurect that type of form again or we are toast. A new manager may not be able to have an immediate impact on the poor conditioning but could have an immediate impact of formation, tactics, desire and motivation. Could very well be huge to draw Anfield and the fanbase back in by playing an exciting and more effective brand of football, who knows. World Cup summer is a poxy time for a new manager to come in, means he gets feck all time with new signings and by the looks of it, we're going to have about 27 of them.

Anyways, it will be the summer imo and time will tell whether that was the correct decision. Either way Arne leaving is inevitable imo.

A few years ago he looked like he might become great, but he seems to have become very rigid in the way he sets teams up the past few years which is mad to be saying about him given he has not even turned 40 yet.

His teams used to be hungry *******s when they did not have the ball and would hunt down the other team relentlessly but now it is like watching the same set of moves over and over and over when you watch his Germany team. Just so predictable and the same tempo over and over.

Not as bad as Arteta but that no room for anything outside of set roles for each player. If people think Slot is stuck in his ways, Nagelsmann would tip them right over the edge imo.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

A new (permanent) manager coming in now would be on a hiding to nothing

An interim manager I could get behind. Gerrard, much as I wouldn't want him for the permanent role, would absolutely give the team a massive lift. Probably anyway
You'd assume that all players would instantly respect him

Anyone know much about Rob Page? Managed Wales so used to senior players

The problem is “after the World Cup” so the pre season is gone, he supposedly liked by us and United

My fear what’s gonna happen now, Is that nothing is gonna happen until the summer, slot will inevitably be sacked. Hughes quite well possibly will be out for job as well and possibly even Edwards. Then the whole FSG line is that their hands are going to be tied when it comes to transfers so it wouldn’t surprise me if we see very little activity this summer, maybe a new manager at the 11th hour. If they are planning on selling, they will want to spend as little as possible.
