I don’t think city will recover as quickly, that’s if they survive the punishment they might get. Arsenal are not a striker away from being the best team, they aren’t as creative as you need to be so unless Arteta changes his style they’ll do the same. There might be another team up there next season as well but we’ll be the pace setters again.
Looking at this as a bedding in season to some extent with a squad which wasn’t his he now knows which players he rates and trusts. It is frustrating as I had high hopes for Elliot as I’m a big fan but it doesn’t look like he fits what Slot wants.
He’s managed the squad well in terms of injuries while not rotating as much as we may have liked. Let him change the players he doesn’t fancy for ones he does and that becomes even better for squad management and injuries.
His style of play is also somewhat limited without all the players he would want. Then he might also be looking at changes for next season. He’s shown how adaptable he is which is very different to most modern managers. After a year in the league he’ll have some ideas about how to take the team to another level.
It’s been a long season and even that great team that won the league so easily dropped off and couldn’t sustain those levels after it was all but done. Plus teams will want to knock off the new champions especially as we’d only been beaten once.
One area I think they’ll look to improve is the physicality of the team. It’s where they’ve struggled a bit recently. And the attack. It’s never really fit together since the big three plus Origi and Shaqiri got broken up. They all fit together much better. And it’s not just this season but the last couple as well. They can score goals and have moments of individual brilliance but they don’t have that understanding and connection that you’d want. Going back to the old style of recruitment should help in buying players that work together better.
A year to figure it all out and let everything from the squad to the back room staff and recruitment team working together and the team should be stronger than ever. Plus the confidence in each other after winning it this season.
