If Mascher is so desperate for a move, as his agent implies, why does he not hand in a transfer request?Originally posted by PC Plod View Post

Do transfer requests have any formal/legal form or is it just a journalistic invention? If they do is it necessary for them to be made public?Originally posted by Scratch View PostIf Mascher is so desperate for a move, as his agent implies, why does he not hand in a transfer request?
I'm led to believe that there is some sort of standard form contract that most footballers in the PL are signed on (by the Guardian law podcast, so it must be true
) so I guess they might make specific provision for a player asking for a transfer.
Depending on the legal/financial implications there are lots of conceivable reasons but he may also feel that doing so would burn his bridges with the fans if he ends up staying here."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

There are 2 types of transfer requests in football verbal and written, a verbal transfer request means the player (Mascher for example) is still entitled to a negotiated pay off from us if and when he moves because of his outstanding contract.Originally posted by dww View PostDo transfer requests have any formal/legal form or is it just a journalistic invention? If he were to submit a written transfer request then we aren't entitled to pay him anything from his contract with us when or after he leaves.
They don't need to be made public, like most things in football those involved think the less the fans know the better hence no transparacy with a lot of transfers amounts and where the actual money goes (naming no names Harry Redknapp)The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Neither of those 4 are 'homegrown' which has a knock on effect with the rest of our squad.Originally posted by red g View Post1 of figuero or twaino,
1 of silva or flamini
total purchase under 12 and all 4 better players imo.
Figeroua had one average season and scored a wonder goal, Chimbonda had one good season at Wigan and look what happened there. Twaino hasn't even had that yet in the PL.
Gilberto Silva (I presume that's who you are talking about) wasn't good enough for Arsenal 3 seasons ago seeing as Wenger let him go and he's got to be 33/34 now so hardly a step forward.
Flamini also had just the 1 good season which suspisciously conincided with him becoming a free agent at the end of it and has done nothing at Milan since.
Insua had 1 average season in a high profile club in turmoil which was his 1st full season in the PL as a 21 year old. Lucas was one of our better players last season and showed real promise when the reigns came off and he started getting into the box more in the last 10 games or so.
We should only sell if we can guarantee (near as possible) that the replacements will be better. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

So what exactly is this highly paid International earning if you don't mind me asking?Originally posted by Richey View PostI agree in principle, and I also agree that in an ideal world he would be worth having in the squad. However, given our current situation we have to be realistic in that we don't have the luxury of having highly paid international players as squad players. If Lucas stays I imagine he would have to be first choice, which is no good.
If we have x amount of money already and we need to sell Lucas to raise enough to buy a decent replacement then we should do so, even if it doesn't give us a huge profit on him.
I think Lucas probably will end up doing okay elsewhere eventually as it happens, but I don't see him doing it for us. Maybe in different circumstances he would have done
Insua is another one who I would ideally want to see stay as back up as he might improve, but again I don't think it is possible. I am also intrigued to see if Woy can achieve something that Benitez never managed - buying a decent left back.
And Aurelio was a very good LB, just unfortunate with injuries. LB has been a curse at this club for a long time, not just with Rafa.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

It may go against the grain, but i think JAR was a class LB for the most part, bar the final season really.Originally posted by RedReet View PostSo what exactly is this highly paid International earning if you don't mind me asking?

Personally, if Insua and Lucas both stay I will not be upset. Both I think will get better and there are worse players than those two I would rather be rid of.
I would only conisider selling either for a decent fee, which would allow us to bring someone better in. If we don't get these fees, I'm happy for them to stay. My only request and hope is that neither are guaranteed first team starters as they were last season. We need to be in a position of having them as back up and bringing them through gradually, this would keep them out the firing line so much and keep the critics at bay.Forwards.......

Are you joking? He really, really, REALLY isnt anything like world class. He is average at very best. Replacing xabi (a real world class player) with lucas made a huge difference in our team last season.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostEven if we got the whole fee to go into the transfer kitty - £54m and not a penny less.
He's a world class player and in this day and age, world class players cost a fortune. Ronaldo went for £80, Kaka for £60m, Torres being spoken at £70m. ****ing Milner quoted at £28m.
So if someone wants to buy Lucas, they can pay £54m or **** off.
Id snap their hand off for as little as 6 million quidOriginally posted by fah-qDidn't someone once see Philip Schofield ****ting into a crisp packet?

I don't know the details of Lucas's contract anymore than you do but I doubt he is playing for free!Originally posted by RedReet View PostSo what exactly is this highly paid International earning if you don't mind me asking?

Aurelio is a good footballer when he is fit, but as he is never fit that makes him too unreliable as a first choice and completely useless as a back up.
Riise was a very good left back. Even Zeige, Bjornebye and pretty much any other left back we have had were better than Dossena (who was also our most expensive left back ever I believe)
