The question can Rodgers identify the specific situations in which we might benefit from a DM such as Lucas, he doesn't seem to be a manager who adapts the side that much game to game (unlike Rafa or some others). That said in fairness to Rodgers we haven't had the squad to do so before now. But with the large number or players we have and need to keep happy it is probably something that he will have to start doing.Originally posted by Corndog View PostI agree, and it worked so there was no need for a DM. Would be nice to keep lucas for specific situations but i doubt he will start that much. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

although can isnt a dm one trick pony his presence in the midfield meant the gaps between henderson and milner were not as easy for the oppo to play through.
can is still able to swap/rotate with the other lads [box to box] but they are less able to be the deeper midfielder.
we definitely do need to have a proper midfield three, with cout/firmino/lallana as the 10 [or two 10s] behind big chris.
again, gary medal would be an ideal replacement for lucas.
also able to hold in front of the back four, but also able to run the middle of the pitch allowing others to better support the attack.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Paddy, Lucas is one of the best tacklers in the league.

I think that there is a misconception about Lucas and his tackling. He doesn't tackle as much as many other DMs - the reason for this is that his reading of the game is so good he can just nip in and take the ball away without having to tackle. This is a very underrated part of the game IMO, That said Lucas is still a good tackler, he just doesn't fly into tackles like Mascherano did.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I read something yesterday that Lucas has made more tackles (I think it was about 850) than anyone in the PL since 2008. Not bad for someone who can't tackle and has missed a fair number of games since then.

Liverpool FC willing to listen to offers for Lucas

Brazilian could leave Anfield if he pushes for a transfer after opening weekend snub
Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for long-serving midfielder Lucas Leiva.
The Brazil international’s future is shrouded in doubt after he was omitted from the squad for Sunday’s Premier League win at Stoke City.
Lucas was left crestfallen by the snub and is now considering his options with a possible move to Italy back on the agenda.
The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his current contract and is valued by the Reds at around £8million.
Inter Milan wanted Lucas back in January and the player was keen on making the switch to the San Siro. However, at the time Lucas had re-established himself in the Liverpool side and Rodgers was adamant he wasn’t for sale.
That is no longer the case with the Reds prepared to sell if Lucas pushes for a transfer and the right offer arrives prior to the transfer deadline on September 1.
If he decides to stay put and fight for a place Lucas will be given the opportunity to force his way back into Rodgers’ plans. It remains to be seen whether Inter boss Roberto Mancini will re-ignite his interest.
The manager opted to play captain Jordan Henderson as Liverpool’s deepest lying midfielder against Stoke with James Milner and Philippe Coutinho operating ahead of him.

Rodgers then brought on Emre Can in the second half with the young German providing protection for the back four, enabling Henderson to push further forward.
Can, who was short of match fitness following his late return for pre-season due to his international commitments, has been earmarked to flourish in that role this season and that means Lucas’ game time could be limited.
Joe Allen can also play there but the Wales international is facing up to a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Unlike Lazar Markovic and Mamadou Sakho, who also didn’t make Brendan Rodgers’ matchday 18, Lucas didn’t travel to the Britannia Stadium and remained on Merseyside.
Lucas was back at Melwood on Monday to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Welsh outfit TNS alongside the likes of Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings, Markovic, Emre Can, Alberto Moreno, Sakho and Divock Origi. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
