Maybe it makes no sense to us but I'm sure there are solid reasons.

Completely agree.Originally posted by Liverpool View PostIts a bit criminal to let our only DM go, especially given he's only 28 and when in form, a bloody good player.
Aside from that, since length of service to the club and the city. He gets it and is a great bloke to have around. It makes no sense. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Not sure why we'd look to sell him now (start of season) unless we have a replacement coming in. Either way, I'd keep him - great experience, good example to the younger players and, importantly, easily good enough for the first team. IMO, a fit Lucas should always be in the first team squad for all our big/major games.Another MASSIVE game

say what?Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostLucas is probably our second best player right now after Coutinho. It would be stupid to let him go. He's had problems with injuries, but when he's fit there's nobody more dependable in the team.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I'd imagine that Rodgers selected his 18 players to travel to Stoke with what he thought was the best 18 to get the season off to a positive start. Of course it meant leaving some star players, who may have expected to start, at home.
I'd also imagine that Lucas who is now a very senior player in the squad felt a bit miffed that he wasn't selected and who could blame him?
But at the end of the day Rodgers is always right, he has to be. I'm sure he wouldn't want to lose Lucas and I'm sure he's an integral part of Rodger's squad going forward.
However, if as the rumours go, there was a heated debate over his exclusion then Rodgers has to be strong and if Lucas feels he will have to move on to secure a regular starting place then so be it.
I would be deeply saddened if he left, he has been a great player for us and unfortunately undervalued at times. He still has lots to offer but Rodgers is the boss and his decisions are paramount, after all the sword is hanging over his head.
With a bit of luck it was a storm in a tea cup and it'll all blow over, Lucas will get a run in the team and prove what a valuable player he really is and Rodgers will be picking over a quarter of the Brazillian team every week.

I wouldn't blame Lucas for wanting to move on, clearly Rodgers doesn't rate him as a starter (rightly or wrongly) so he needs to play football every week, he's 28 and a very good player.
However, I would question the logic of us appearing to be happy to allow a vastly experienced defensive midfielder to depart without having a similar type of player in the squad.
In Rodgers we trust.

Yeah, this is a joke. Plus Allen being ahead of Lucas - weren't there also talks of a new deal for him? And Lovren ahead of Sakho. Madness. From the outside looking in, it does look like Rodgers has his favourites (signings?) and would rather go with them. If that is the case then there is no point in having a committee or director of football or anything of that ilk and it must really piss the players off. I know it would me.Originally posted by BubbaZanetti View PostNew contract for Kolo (he makes everyone laugh) whilst Lucas is ushered out.
Lucas would be ideal to battle it out with Can for the spot that Can finished in vs Stoke - with Rossiter getting game time as a gradual integration. A new player would want to come in and be first choice.
I'd look to jettison Allen first (although not possible at the moment due to injury). We have Tex, who could have a great season given a chance, as one of the more advanced midfielders if Henderson or Milner were injured, with Can behind. Allen is a jack of all trades, but master of none and I didn't realise that he is only 3 years younger than Lucas, so no spring chicken himself. I'm also not sure why Rodgers likes Allen so much - the signings this year have all pretty much added strength and power to the team (also a reason given for a possible Moreno exit), which is a major weakness of Allen's. Weird.
