Imperative to have a good Lucas-level player for away ties in Europe.

From the article posted on 9th Feb above it was reported:

"Scan results have revealed that Lucas will be out for four to six weeks after he limped out of Saturday's goalless derby with Everton....Lucas could miss as many as six Premier League games as well as the FA Cup tie with Crystal Palace and the Europa League clash with Besiktas."

Its only been 3 weeks and Lucas is not a reknowned quick healer.
          One tit for another.

Yup, integral to the way the team is set-up at the moment.

Wow. Outstanding. Lucas is back to being the best DM in the league.

When is he back from injury by the way?

People seem to hang LFCs upturn in form with the change to a 3 man defense but for me, Lucas coming back into the team around Nov / Dec helped massively as well. It brought back the whole "do the basics right" attitude to the way we played.

Lucas actually came into the team a little bit before that and we got 7 points from 9 against Stoke, Leicester and Sunderland.

The United away game we changed the system and lost 3-0 but played brilliantly and should have got something. De Gea played amazing that day. Lucas missed that game and for me, if you look at the first 2 United goals, then I think if lucas was on the pitch, then we may have stopped them both. Especially Rooney's goal where he was allowed so much time and space.

Very important player and although it is easy to say that we should sign a new top class defensive midfielder, but there is a little bit of me thinks "if it ain't broke then don't fix it". I think we might be better off seeing if BR can develop a youngster like Rossiter instead to slowly integrate into the team....

He must be in with a shout for making the Swansea match, that's his month up.

In saying that, would be harsh to drop Allen if also fit.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

i wonder will we see a return to the diamond formation at all. For me, the blackburn game would have been ideal to trial it had we been winning the ****in game by 2 goals after an hour or so......

Having said that, we could do that against Swansea next week as well if we were winning comfortably...... start with something like:

                          -------------------------------MIGNOLET----------------------------------

                          ---------EMRE CAN-------------SKRTEL----------SAKHO------------------

                          MARKOVIC--------------------------------------------------------MORENO
                          -----------------------HENDERSON------ALLEN----------------------------

                          -------STERLING--------------STURRIDGE-----------COUTINHO----------

and then essentially move Emre Can forward into:

                          ------------------MIGNOLET------------------

                          ----------SKRTEL-----------SAKHO-----------
                          MARKOVIC------------------------------MORENO
                          --------------------CAN--------------------------
                          ------------HENDO-----------ALLEN-------------
                          --------------------COUTINHO-------------------

                          ----------STERLING---------STURRIDGE---------

It would essentially allow us to play our game 30 yards higher up the pitch.........which against the so-called lesser teams, means we create more chances, more possession in dangerous spaces and control the tempo more.

For me it would be the perfect tweak to eventually make to our team. Getting back to Lucas, for me he would be the perfect player to start as DM in that formation. If you were starting a team from scratch, then you'd consider signing Lucas for that position - as he is good at reading counter attacks and he also plays the right pass 99% of the time and starts moves. Gerrard played that role during the 2nd half of last season and everyone was thrilled with the results - we Henderson's passing has come on leaps and bounds in the space of 12 months and we also have the likes of Lallana providing movement additional to that of Sterling, Sturridge and Coutinho. So a stevie-g 45 yard special ball isn't required every 5 minutes any more. But keeping the ball moving from side-to-side and keeping the tempo up is required.

Liverpool FC boost as Lucas returns to full training

                            16:19, 18 March 2015 By James Pearce

Brazilian midfielder is back - six weeks after limping out of the Merseyside derby

Liverpool have received a major boost after Lucas Leiva was passed fit to return to full training.

The Brazil midfielder hasn’t featured for the Reds since he was forced off with a thigh injury in the Merseyside derby at Goodison on February 7.

However, six weeks on Lucas has now rejoined Brendan Rodgers’ squad and is ready to play a part in Liverpool’s pursuit of a Champions League spot and FA Cup glory.

Rodgers will decide over the coming days whether Lucas will be involved in Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United at Anfield.

Considering his lengthy spell on the sidelines, a more likely comeback game is the trip to Arsenal on Easter Saturday.

Having Lucas available significantly strengthens Rodgers’ midfield options. With Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan also back in training, the Reds’ casualty list has cleared up as they enter a crucial run of fixtures.

Lucas had played a key role in Liverpool’s resurgence prior to his injury setback with his wealth of experience providing protection for the three-man backline. In the absence of the 28-year-old, Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson have formed a successful midfield double act.

Straight back into the 11 once fit or reward Allen for his performance and keep him in?
