So basically there may be a few players who could possibly do a better job but it's unlikely they are attainable and many teams have challenged for honours with worse players in their starting XI.

Whatever money we have we need to buy goal scorers and a keeper. The rest will do for now. We got very bloody close last season just by scoring **** loads and that's also how United won their last few leagues, awful in the middle and not great at the back but they scored goals, last season showed there's not much more required in this league. Replacing Lucas wouldn't even be on my to do list let alone near the top of it.

Relatively speaking you're right, and boy have we seen some breakdowns on here.
Maybe I had a controlled one where I took time out to recompose before the onset of a fit. My signature ain't changing yet though.
One tit for another.

Ha! Great stats those. All those innoxious looking non glamorous little interceptions he makes, would love to know what %age of them end up as goals against when he's not there to make them.Originally posted by Chazza View Post

One goal we conceded that at the time I thought Lucas's presence would have made a difference was Rooney's goal at Old Trafford. He was unmarked in acres of space on the edge of the box, exactly the area Lucas patrols and breaks up attacks.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostHa! Great stats those. A lot of people massively underrate Lucas. I love the way he's very happy to receive the ball in tight places when under pressure and how he always makes the sensible pass and very rarely loses possession cheaply.
Some people's comments about him on here go on as if he was some thick plodder and if we could only replace him we'd go on to greater things. We should be loking to improve the quality around him rather then replace him. He'd improve any team and it would cost us a fortune to find anyone as effective as him in that key role.
The facts about Liverpool's abject form without him and the vast improvement when he's played are there for all to see. He should be the first name on the teamsheet

Whilst totally true, he does have a sketchy injury record which is unlikely to get better.
If I was on the coaching staff I'd do everything I could to get him and Can together so that Lucas could school him. Can would be a very decent deputy to Lucas until the time came to let Lucas out to pasture in Italy

Regardless of what's been said of Lucas, we are coming into a period of games where the improved form of this team is going to come into question.
If we come out of that period with our heads held high, I'll happily go onto each player thread who I've given some stick and insert praise where necessary.
As it stands I think we need to improve upon Lucas. Should he do well ill be delighted to be called an idiot by many who will rush to do so and accept I was wrong to consider that.Forwards.......

I just wanted to throttle Brendan, even sacked if he continued his idiocracy over common sense.
