It'll be an Andy Carroll situation when we allowed him to leave on loan before we had his replacement sorted out and then we didn't manage to get one until 5 months later. The replacement turned out pretty good mind but still, Lucas should be going nowhere until his replacement is signed.

5 million...for a first team regular who is in his peak years??? Some bad transfer decisions have been made over the years, this would be right up there.

It's totally stupid. I'll reserve judgement on the accuracy of the reporting until its done but if we're considering this we want ****ed and burned. And if we then spend 7 million on a little ****house who is out of contract in 6 months as his replacement (and who isn't anywhere near the calibre of player we're losing) then we're even bigger jokers.

Peak years? That's stretching it. He's only going to get slower every season. Still daft to sell in Jan though.

It's a gamble of sorts, but Lucas isn't the player he has been anymore. He seems crucial to us because when we played without a proper DCM we were ****ing ****e and when we play with one we function better, but I'm not convinced most of that is the individual brilliance of Lucas. He's an intelligent player positionally but needs to be because he's really slow.

I couldn't really care about fees (£5, 7m, 10m, not my money) so I'm not too worried about losing someone who would be a squad player if we had a well balanced squad.
