Fair enough but Lucas was bought as a prospect for something like 5 million. When a player costs as much as Allen & turns out to be a donkey like Downing, then it's not good. Especially when Allen wasn't needed at the time & especially at 15 million...Originally posted by RedReet View PostIronic you should bring this up in the Lucas thread. You were quite patient with him too IIRC?Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

What difference does the cost make? If Allen can build on his early potential like Lucas and become a key player, would it not be £15m well spent?Originally posted by Nick77 View PostFair enough but Lucas was bought as a prospect for something like 5 million. If you spend 15 mill on a player, you'd expect to come into the team and make a very good impression and help the team, all the opposite of what Allen has done at the club as he's always on the benchOriginally posted by RedReet View PostWhat difference does the cost make? When Allen came into the team last season that's exactly what he did, yes his form dropped alarmingly for a number of reasons however at the start he looked an excellent playerOriginally posted by Madridred View PostIf you spend 15 mill on a player, you'd expect to come into the team and make a very good impression and help the team, all the opposite of what Allen has done at the club as he's always on the benchKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

Errr...are we talking about our lucas here? He ain't what you described as above...he definitely has more composure than masch and different passing ability as xabi...he is uniquely different but better for what he provides for the team and the way we play nowadaysOriginally posted by Arn View PostHe isn't a Pirlo.
He is a Maschonso. A mix of Xabi and Masch.

Not really his fault that the manager picked him when he wasn't fit to play.Originally posted by Gazzla View PostWhen Allen came into the team last season that's exactly what he did, yes his form dropped alarmingly for a number of reasons however at the start he looked an excellent playerStop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

I keep reminding my Dad of this. He started very well for us and looked every part like he was a £15 million player. Just dropped off due to injuries and inavbbility to get going again after them.Originally posted by Gazzla View PostWhen Allen came into the team last season that's exactly what he did, yes his form dropped alarmingly for a number of reasons however at the start he looked an excellent player
Lucas is a very important player for us. We could really do with better back up for the defensive side of things.
I still think Mascherano was a better player. One of the best defensive midfielders that has played for us imo. Probably the best I have seen in my years supporting (or can remember well enough).

he struggled when he first joined, rash challenges and change in style and role but he really worked at it and has become one of the best in his position.
