In fairness, I think the majority of Liverpool fans do, and in general, most pundits have accepted his qualities over the last 24 months.
Crucial member of the side, and TBH, there's no other deep lying midfielder playing in England that I'd want in my side ahead of him.
Wouldn't mind him having an understudy in the squad though.

and the highlighted bit must be our top priority. there will be occasional need to have a decent replacement/cover for lucas, and some games we might need to play two solid DMs to close out a game for the last 20 minutes or so.

If Lucas is that important why is there no viable alternative in the squad?

Maybe because he is a world class player. He is the best tackler and ball winner in the league.

Before his injury problems he was miles ahead of the second best one and he is close to getting back to his best.

He is better playing the British game than the best British players. Says a lot of how excellent he is.

IMO because the one we signed would know that he would sit on the bench a lot.

There is very few teams out there that have two excellent defensive midfielders because they only play one and the one that play must be excellent or the team suffers a lot.

The defensive midfielder must know the tactics almost 100% because he is the one that have as a job to protect the back four and to start up the attacks. He is the defensive brain.

Rafa of course used the defensive ball winner higher up the pitch to protect the playmaker and to win the ball as early as possible.

So you could use him in different ways but then you would need a Xabi type of player that is also a very good tackler and ball winner behind the ball winner.

In our case it would be Lucas in the Masch position and Gerrard in the Xabi one.

I think that if the rest of the team were functioning as well as it is now then Allen would be a viable alternative (albeit not as good, but that should be fairly obvious as Lucas is starting and he isn't).

If more than 50% think he's not worth a starting place, then I would be really, really worried about our fan base.
Start smaller than that though..........if more than half of the Est. populace figure Lucas is not good enough to be a key member of our side, the site should be shutdown.

Well, I said that he would become the best defensive midfielder in the league a couple of months or so after he played the first games for us.

I still thinking of all the and I got as replies.

Lucas is a top class leader on and off the pitch. A top class role model. A player we can be proud of playing for the club.

I accept if you ask the majority of fans then they probably will agree that Lucas is a good player as there is a wealth of information to support this and to argue otherwise would make them look a bit stupid. However, the high volume of disparaging comments, intentional or otherwise (not exclusive to here) would suggest to me that a lot of people still don’t appreciate what he brings to the team.
