I do. His workrate off the ball, his reading of the game, his composure when on the ball...all are second to none, and the lad gets better and better with every passing year.

Yeah I do as well as it goes, I'd put Reina in that bracket also. Lucas was immense last season.

        I think so, yeah.

Lucas might not be sitting near the top of the goals or assists charts and he isnt a highlights-reel player, but for Suarez and Gerrard to score those goals, we need to win the ball back efficiently and retain possession - and that's the crucial role Lucas plays, and plays it superbly well.

Gerrard and Suarez obviously score goals and create chances, but the fact that Lucas' job is different, doesnt make it any less crucial. He's a key player and, when fit, will always play. And rightly so.

I do. He may not offer the goals or marauding runs of a Gerrard or a Suarez but he offers different qualities that are equally important in a football team

              I don't.

Actually I probably do but I hate conformity.

I love the guy for the way that he conducts himself on and off the pitch. He's consistently improved and does his job quietly and efficiently. Really happy for him and think we can progress to be a title challenging side with him in the team.

That said, if pushed I'd almost certainly prefer to see him go rather than Reina, Suarez or Gerrard.

Despite the signings he will be one of the first midfielders on the team sheet week in, week out. He's clearly rated very highly at the club. I had my doubts, but he dispelled those last season and think he has developed into a very important player for us.

The much maligned Lucas? You lot will saying that Aquilani is a much improved player next. Oh, wait....
                        Oh I don't know.

For me, the only three automatic selections in the squad at this time are Reina, Suarez and Lucas.

I just could NOT get why he was in the team, three years ago! Now I am a complete convert. I am not usually one for turnarounds but I'll humbly dip into this U-turn. He is THE impeccable professional. Without his complete consistance last year, a season from the event horizon of hell could have had us sucked beyond it into championship oblivion. I'm not a fan of the term "untouchable". None of our players should ever be bracketed as such. Hence the whole "never bigger than the club" routine. However I get the distinct impression that Lucas will live by his ****e seasons and not be given the accolade of "Playing his damn socks off" when everyone had already said how ****e he was (me included). I apologize to you Lucas Leiva and I hope to see even more from your good self this 2011/12 season,

He was voted our player of the season last year on LFC website out of over 100,000 votes. Awards may not be the best argument but they definitely show that most fans consider him one of our best players at this time.

Pfft, they were merely sympathy votes.

I've said it before but I'll say it again - Lucas is boss, and is only going to get better
