A lot now. FSG seem to be rather obsessed with sell-on fees. Seems the only logical reason to extend a contract that still has two years left to run.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

Possibly. Nothing wrong with that though is there.

Lucas gets a good contract for a set number of years, and FSG get a decent price if and when they decide to sell. Everyone's a winner. Business innit.

Obviously I'd have Lucas stay for a long time but you can see why both parties are keen to get this deal done.

        What not wot! :noexcuse:

By the way, your view of Lucas is pretty much in direct contradiction to his stats.

It's an interesting question. I think we would probably expect to get £12-£15m for him. I think it's fair to say that we (club and fans in general) value him higher than his market valuation.

Lucas really hasn't been the same player. It's always the worry after a player comes back form a bad injury.

Lucas was superb under Kenny but since coming back has looked nowhere near the same player, he has been dominated in the midfield on several occasions. Hopefully he stays injury free, gets good pre season into him and can push on next season.

He has been statically very important to us though, our results with him far out do our results without.

But is that more to do with our lack of DM backup? We were shoe-horning a non-DM player in to cover for Lucas so its not surprising that there's a difference.

It still suggests he has a positive impact.

                    So you're saying he's better than no-one?

He is better than most players in that role in the prem in general.

                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Before his injury vs Chelsea yes but I am not so sure we could fetch that much if we'd decide to sell him now.
