I never really rated him except for a 6 month spell before his first injury. He has been a great steadying personality in the squad but as a first team player or even a bencher I feel it is over for him now.

Yep. Them injuries has really robbed him of the little pace that he had.Originally posted by danperkins View PostPoor chap is gone, injuries have finished him.
Real shame, because prior to his first injury he'd really developed into a very good player and a very important one.
I was thinking a few months ago that he'd be a an excellent squad player next year. Not sure he's capable of being that now and I cant see where else we'd be able to play him either - too slow for DM and certainly not good enough to play AM.

He's been out for almost the whole season, he's nowhere near fit, he's only really playing because our squad is down to the bones.
Judge him next season when he's had a preseason behind him and a chance to get back to fitness. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's not gone - he's just Gerrard's understudy now. He can still do a job in front of the back four but he's woefully slow for the two positions further forward in our midfield. Gerrard offers more in that defensive position though, so Lucas will have to settle for a squad place.
The depth of our squad has been shown up with Henderson (and Sturridge) out in the last three games. Particularly when you look at options on the bench.

Not reinforcing in Jan was a very bad idea.Originally posted by calvoboy View Post

To me he just doesn't look as though he has the energy to get through the game, he doesn't seem to do as much running as I remember him doing before the injury. Also as he hasn't had many games he's lacking match sharpness or whatever you want to call it.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostWhy do you say he's not fit?The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I don't think we can afford to be getting rid of established players really. To my mind we have 14 players of decent enough quality to either play from the start or come in and do a job and Lucas is one of them, we need to significantly improve that number.Originally posted by BigChief View PostLucas will not be playing for us next season. Shame for him, but that's life. He might still be in the squad on account of no one else taking him but the likes of Tex, Suso, Ibe, anyone, will be ahead of him in the pecking order now.
The likes of Teixeira, Suso and Ibe while the may be promising talents (and may end up being ahead of more established players by the end of next season if they push on) can't be relied on at the moment. Teixeira has played 3 first team games in his career and Ibe has spend much of his time on the bench at Birmingham. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
