Allen can't really sit. Well, he can, but he's not a specialist holding midfield player. Can presumably can play there but he's obviously been brought in to play a bit further forward. I think we should keep Lucas, but the club might not have a choice in that decision.

I still don't think Gerrard is a 'specialist holding midfield player' to be honest. I think one of the problems Lucas faces is that he clearly needs a run of games to get back to match fitness and he's not likely to get that whilst Gerrard is fit, and may not b first choice now even when he isn't.

I think Can is more of a similar player to Henderson - more energy, suited to a range of roles higher up the pitch. That said I think we might shift formation a little to remove the deep midfielder if Gerrard is not part of the selection.

He's completely redundant, Gerrard doesn't need him and he offers nothing the others cant. You always see Hendo or Allen popping up in or around the opponents area, he barely makes it over the halfway line and has no energy. Him and Gerrard would be fine if we played Chelsea style but we are the complete opposite.

Agreed. It's definitely not solely his form not matching what it once was, he's just not the right type of player for the role he was given today.

Finding a buyer for Lucas will be difficult, it's either sending him to Napoli on loan or keep him for when we're really desperate.

He's been made the scapegoat for a poor midfield performance today. Think he should be Gerrard's understudy and struggles when played a bit further forward. Rodgers for whatever reason didn't think Can was ready to play this game, but I'd have had Allen in there ahead of Lucas.
