With the extra games we'll play next season it makes no sense to sell lucas as we will need a bigger squad and players with European experience which lucas has with us. He is not the player he was prior to the injury but can still do a decent job when called upon. Selling lucas would be a mistake IMOKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

Granted but we still won them. Shows he's not the be all and end all.Originally posted by captainfog View PostWe weren't very convincing in those games. Most of them were 1-0 affairs where we spent most of the second half sitting deep and hanging on.
EDIT: FWIW the results of those games where 4 1-0's wins, a 4-2 in the cup , a 2-2, a 0-0, a 0-1 defeat and 0-6 +1-3 away wins.Last edited by G; 08-07-14, 01:13 PM.

Have we actually had any real confirmation that Lucas is off? Him leaving would make me uneasy about our short term direction but at the minute it all seems to be internet speculation with little to back it up."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Bit far fetched speculation as well IMO. I think he'll stay at least for another season.Originally posted by dww View PostHave we actually had any real confirmation that Lucas is off? Skrtel?Originally posted by Gibbo View PostMaybe Lucas has been told he won't get much playing time and has decided to leave? I think he's 5th choice in midfield now.
As someone mentioned in the other thread, Brendan is on a mission to remove all traces of Benitez, first Reina, then Agger, now Lucas.

imo it's a mistake to sell lucas, yeah sure injuries have not made him gotten to his previous best, but what he still has to offer on the field, is a lot more than other DMs in the league have to offer, imo he is the consumate professional and if we are going for squad depth and if he is willing to stay and fight, so be it...it was a sad day when players like sami, kuyt and lucas left, these guys are mentally tough and never give up... with luis gone, we need now more and ever for these sort of players, whether it be on the field ...or off it...

Valid point unless we can sign a better player, which is very questionable atm.Originally posted by dww View PostI hope we keep him - too much squad turn over is a real danger for us this summer. If he gets back to his best he is a big asset, particularly as we may have to adapt and adopt a more defensive approach at times without Suarez.
The bigger issue is if Lucas can see himself as a bench option at this point in his career as his playing time will be limited next year if he does stay.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

No point in selling, we're going to be playing a lot of games next season and nobody knows how Gerrard will hold up with the increased schedule plus any midfield injury and we're down to the bare bones. Lucas will get plenty of games next year, a very important member of the squad for me and as has been mentioned, we don't want too much of a revolving door unless it's **** like Aspas on the way outKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08
