Wasn't just Hodgson. In his infinite wisdom Purslow had collated a list of players he deemed to be surplus to requirements - Insua and Lucas were both on it.

The only possible 'footballing reason' Arsenal could have had for selling RVP was that they didn't want to be very good at it anymore!

Lucas is getting better but I still think he is off his pre injury form. Hopefully making it through the rest of the season and then a full pre season with see Lucas return to his absolute best.

I'm one of the few who doesn't think he's been great since returning from his double injury, but I'd expect that and see this season as a means of building himself up for next season.

I think the results since he's returned speak for themselves and he's did well, even if he's still a bit away from his normal excellent standard.

He hasn't which he acknowledged himself and asked for more time.

There is a possibility that he never will be the player he was before the injury and for that reason we have to pick up a very good back up for next season.

Just looking at our results with and without Lucas since his return in December.

In the league games he’s started since December, we’ve averaged 1.93 points which would have had us on 60 points at this stage, 3rd in the league, only 2 points behind City.

In the 4 games he hasn’t started in all competitions, we’ve only won 1, losing the other 3.


Despite not being fully fit and still way off the level he’s capable of, we’re still a much better team with him than without and it’s imperative that he starts as many games as possible if we’re to finish the season on a high.
