Spearing is a big downgrade from Lucas. His passing is okay, but other than his tenacity, his ability to win the ball and defend is nowhere near Lucas', who has really started to dominate games with his defence. I hope Lucas is alright because with Gerrard out as well, we're going to be very light in the middle.

Lucas Leiva has just completed the scan and he told Adrian Clarke of Sport Media Solutions that he is afraid that he could be out for six months. Ben Smith of the Times also confirmed this.

Hopefully this is just Lucas’ judgement and not the doctors, maybe the fact that he hasn’t been injured often leads him to believe that the injury would take longer for him to recover from.

Official results of the scan should be known later today or tomorrow.

Until then we have to wait and simply hope for the best, get well soon Lucas.

Even if it's not going to end up as six months, if this is what he fears, then it's obvious a severe injury and he won't be playing anytime soon.

We really need Gerrard back and we need to go for someone in January (Moussa Sissoko/Javi Martinez type)

If he is going to be out for a while, with Gerrard out for a while as well its time for someone to step up a level, this could be a massive opportunity for Spearing or Henderson to stake a claim for a central midfield role.

Really feel for him, he's proved to be a fantastic player, probably only got up and played on to keep us all happy and on side.
