Our defensive midfielder was Mascherano. Lucas' "role" had no basis for justification. Lucas was stuck to being defensive and safety first because if he tried anything else, his pass success percentage would have spiraled down to 20% and everyone would have realized how limited he is.

So does Mascherano. What is you point? If you make a lot of tackles you are going to have a higher volume of failed tackles. Again, well done at failing context.

No, I also pointed to Lucas' passing accuracy too and offer the Chalkboard as a way assessing where those passes go.

No, Lucas's pass accuracy is also very good. In his position tackling and passing are the two stats that you want high.

The only stat that matters is goals.

Lucas is very good under pressure, he keeps the ball very well.

I know people who say Lucas is a good player, not that popular opinion is any sort of worthwhile judge anyway.

And the bits about only 5 yard passes and nicking some balls are demonstrably false. He is a very good tackler, he rarely gives the ball away and he is a good passer (not in the Alonso sense, but that is a ridiculously unfair comparison).

And to say he is a failed box to box midfielder when he has not been used in that role is a nonsense.

I think he does it very well.

Lucas does actually make runs into the box and it has been something that has increased in his game.

once again doesnt have percentages, but pretty sure that JC's passing rate will be quite high as he keeps it so simple.

Work the pecentage out yourself... total passes - completed passes... 83% for Lucas. But the whole how effective was the pass comes into play. Most of his passes will be back to a defender or to gerrard/mascherano. But then thats his job i suppose!?

I still dont think hes good enough over all, there are better players around in the same position who bring more to the team.
