Hamann chipped in with the odd goal, certainly more than Lucas does. Definite area for improvement.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I'd have thought you'd want your arch enemy gone at any cost?

By the way, the person who fed the ball through to Torres, for his little flick to get Maxi in on goal at Bolton, was Lucas.

Not at any cost, just because i don't rate him doesn't mean i don't think he's worth over 4 million squids in todays market, especially considering his age, if Paul Konchesky can be sold for 5 million quid well then anything is possible.

Do you think every player in every team has to be world class or 'flashy' ?

To evaluate it properly, you have to identify what role a player has, what he needs to do to fulfill the role properly and whether the player in question does that.

So what do you think Lucas' role is and what isnt he managing to do, to fill the role properly?

And before anyone says it, do a chalkboard and you'll see they werent all 'sideways and backwards 3 yard passes'.

He's quietly becoming a very effective player. He'll probably never beat 4 defenders, do tricks, barge his way through and smash into the top corner - but every player has a different role, and he's performing his exceptionally well nowadays. Maturing nicely and just quietly goes about his business.

I really hope Bodgson has him comfortably ahead of Poulsen in the pecking order now, because aside from the fact that Lucas is young and always learning/improving, he's an infinitely better player and has a very valuable effect on our play, unlike Poulsen does.

Definitely showing a significant improvement these days and very much starting to win me over.
Here's his chalkboard from the Bolton game. And nope, I didn't do it.

Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

Break up play, protect the back four, win possession, retain possession and try to link his area of the park with more advanced areas.

                    Eh No.

Lucas is a failed box to box midfielder turned into a DM. Rafa obviously looked at Lucas's attributes and decided that DM was a better position for the lad, it minimized the mistakes he was making as his role was more workmanlike and less technical, and to be fair to Rafa he was correct in changing Lucas's whole game.

He has a good work ethic and keeps things simple. He has improved for LFC no doubts but IMO in the long term is not good enough to be a starter if we want to challenge for things. For me Lucas doesn't do enough in the centre of the park, he is slow, rash, naive and has a tendency to disappear in games. I do not trust him to protect our back four on a regular or permanent basis.

I do think Lucas has been good in the last 2 games though. Credit where credit is due. But IMO he is and never will be good enough if we want to get back up the table and compete at the highest level. I don't think its a coincidence that the likes of Stoke are the only ones looking at him, maybe some average Italian teams too last season apparently.

Again, you're slipping in your contradictions mate.
                      Are we winning?

How can he be a failed box to box midfielder, when he never played that role for us? When or how did he 'fail' then?

And do you remember Didi Hamann? Lucas is doing the same job, albeit not to that same standard yet. But then, Hamann wasnt doing it for us at the age of 23 either.

I dont know which top class and established DMs, who dont have the weaknesses you think Lucas does, that we could have bought for £5m.

                          Any ideas?
