I think that is more to it than that. Lucas is an excellent leader on the pitch. Our Captain Gerrard have said that the players didn't turn up in some games.

That is totally unacceptable.

Agreed, holding player and a centrehalf or two have to be our priorities this summer

All of these have to have physical presences for me but not necessarily at the expense of being decent players

We sorely lack a physical presence in midfield and in the back four

I like Lucas, in fact, I love him, but surely the priority should be tying our current captain down as opposed to our future captain.

Iv seen some great defensive minded midfielders in my time supporting lfc....souness,didi,McMahon,masch....Lucas couldn't lace any of the aboves boots,just don't rate him,slow in possession n very clumsy tackler

He's certainly no Souness, that's for sure. I rate the others more highly too to be honest. Still, he's a good solid player.
