@OptaJoe: 9 - Lucas Leiva (9) won two more tackles yesterday than the whole QPR team won in total today (7). Committed.
The times they are a changin'.

Official - Lucas is best tackler in PL

        1st May 2013 - Latest News

It may come as no surprise to Liverpool fans but now it's official - Lucas Leiva is the best tackler in the Barclays Premier League.

The 26-year-old completed nine tackles in the 6-0 win at Newcastle on Saturday - two more than the entire QPR team in their goalless draw with Reading.

This haul elevated Lucas to third in the tackles won table for 2012-13 behind Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin and Stoke's Geoff Cameron.

        The top 10 is:

        Morgan Schneiderlin - 105
        Geoff Cameron - 86
        Lucas Leiva - 82
        Mohamed Diame - 81
        Pablo Zabaleta - 80
        Craig Gardner - 79
        Ramires - 79
        Robert Snodgrass - 77
        Claudio Yacob - 76
        Steve Sidwell -76

As interesting as the above table is, it doesn't take into account how often a player has featured during 2012-13.

For example, Schneiderlin has totally 105 tackles during more than 3,000 league minutes - whereas Lucas has tallied 82 in fewer than 1,700 minutes.

The more telling table below shows the tackles won per 90 minutes of each of the top 10 - and with 4.4 successful tackles per game, Lucas is head and shoulders above the other contenders.

        The adapted top 10 is:

        Lucas Leiva - 4.4
        Steve Sidwell -3.25
        Claudio Yacob - 3.19
        Geoff Cameron - 3.15
        Morgan Schneiderlin - 3.11
        Mohamed Diame - 3.10
        Ramires - 3.09
        Pablo Zabaleta - 2.91
        Craig Gardner - 2.53
        Robert Snodgrass - 2.46

That is taken into account if you read the article. Still he was WAY ahead of the competition. He's been looking like he's getting nearer to his best again recently. Great player

It's not just about the games missed statistically, its also about the time taken to get back into form.

Even further ahead than he appears

Even more impressive given it's taken him a while to get fully up to speed.

So he's ahead of himself despite being slower than himself.

                          That IS impressive.
                          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Rafael Benitez to make Lucas top transfer target if he gets Napoli post

Rafael Benitez is believed to be keen on a move for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva should the Spanish boss take charge of Napoli this summer.

The current Chelsea interim manager, who is overseeing his final games in charge of the Blues as they tour America, has been heavily linked with a move back to Serie A to succeed Walter Mazzarri.

And Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport believe the former Liverpool boss wants to make Lucas his first signing, despite the Brazilian international only singing a new long-term contract at Anfield last month.

The 26-year-old said at the time: ‘I am really delighted to have the opportunity to play for this club. It’s where I think I belong and where I wanted to stay, so I am very happy and looking forward to a few more years here.’

But it looks as though Benitez, who originally signed Lucas for the Reds in 2007, is keen to work with the midfielder again and may have the funds to make Liverpool an offer the can’t refuse, should Napoli strike a big-money deal to sell striker Edinson Cavani.
