Maxi looked absolutely disgusted when he was subbed off against Stoke in CC.

Wouldnt be surprised, or indeed blame him, if he left in January. He's been treated pretty shoddily IMO. I simply can't understand how he hasnt been getting any game time.

I'm trying to word this without having a pop at you mate but using language like 'treated pretty shoddily' is a bit off the mark. Ashley Cole's treated Cheryl shoddily, Lee Chapman was pretty shoddy towards Leslie Ash, but Liverpool have only boosted Maxi's bank balance by £7.5m the mean *******s

Perhaps Kenny has realised that if he dosen't play Downing and Henderson then FSG might start asking some uncomfortable questions about the 36 million spent on Stewart and Jordy boy.

Well obviously, and if Downing had cost £1.5m he probably wouldn't.

Manager in 'plays expensive signing' shocker, except that I don't think that's the case at all. Carroll's more expensive than Downing yet has endured being rotated, or dropped if you like. Maxi is a short term signing and perhaps the manager is looking at the long term cohesion of the squad.

FWIW I too would prefer Maxi in the side over Downing. My preferred front 6 is Lucas, Spearing/Adam, Maxi, Bellamy, Suarez and Kuyt up front on his own. Kuyt can benefit more than any other player because he's prepared to attack the keeper hoping to tap in any spills. At the moment Downing is performing without any true conviction but there's no way Dalglish will not play him until this changes. IMO

I too like Maxi, but Kenny works with the players every day so is going to have a much better idea of form, and who is doing what's asked of them, than we can conclude from games.

It shouldn't matter what a player cost, Kenny himself said that players would be selected for the starting 11 based on form. To date Downing has started every league game this season and has contributed absolutely NOTHING, 0 goals and 0 assists but yet he hasn't been dropped, dosen't make sense to me.

Henderson was dropped for I think 2 league games ? But now he is back starting on the right wing which he is unsuited for.

Did he not take a pay cut to join us though?

He also uprooted his family, moving them to a new country/climate than they are used to. He had to endure Hodgson while here, the manager who signed him was sacked after a few months and after playing out of his skin essentially helping Kenny get the job full-time, he finds himself almost frozen out, unable to get a place on the bench at times.

I do think he a bit of a case for feeling a bit aggrieved, not that he’s ever showed it once.

No I don't only go off stats but what an individual sees when watching a game is subjective and personal, what one observer sees is often entirely different to another supporter. When judging a players form aside from watching a game all we have is stats and the stats would suggest that Downing should be dropped.

Because Downing is better than Maxi and even when he doesn't play well, he offers us something that Maxi never does in a good game (balance, width, pace, an ability to beat a man and cross).

When we're playing with two strikers, there is no place for Maxi in the team. He's basically Henderson with more experience in the final third but with 20% the engine. You can't get away with Lucas and Adam AND Maxi in the same midfield

Downing really needs to up his game, started off well and has deteriorated desperately. IMO it's a mentality thing with him, if he makes a few mistakes or defender getting the better of him, the head seems to drop. As said before by several people of here he does seems a wee bit timid and seems to fade out of games.

Personally at the moment i'd like to see Bellamy or Maxi in for Downing, obviously neither are wingers or possess Downing's left foot, but then again Downing doesn't seems to be putting his abilities to good use. I think Maxi give us more guile and and positive pass and move game, he also makes great forward runs, whereas Bellamy gives us lighten pace,aggression and a directness that Downing lacks. Jus tmy opinion but i'd rather see Downing used more sparingly for the time being, use him as an impact sub, 20 mins here and there and get some confidence back into the lad (Same for Hendo IMO).

Downing has my 100% support when he plays, but IMO if his performances don't start to improve, surely Kenny must question his inclusion in the starting 11?
