But we don't really play 4-4-2 though, don't we? It's more of a 4-1-3-1-1, sometimes 4-2-3-1 than a rigid 4-4-2 so I think Maxi has his place.

Maxi looked absolutely disgusted when he was subbed off against Stoke in CC.

Wouldnt be surprised, or indeed blame him, if he left in January. He's been treated pretty shoddily IMO. I simply can't understand how he hasnt been getting any game time.

He's offered a hell of a lot more than Downing so far, yet he isn't given a sniff of a chance whereas Downing is a passenger every time he's played yet gets given chance after chance - amazing!

Because Downing is better than Maxi and even when he doesn't play well, he offers us something that Maxi never does in a good game (balance, width, pace, an ability to beat a man and cross).

When we're playing with two strikers, there is no place for Maxi in the team. He's basically Henderson with more experience in the final third but with 20% the engine. You can't get away with Lucas and Adam AND Maxi in the same midfield

After how he helped us towards the back end of last season along with Kuyt, playing some excellent football and scoring great goals (2 hattricks and a brace in 3 consecutive games - 11 in total last season) great workrate, technically sound, fantastic attitude, never complaining, gets on with it, I really am disappointed that he's been given literally **** all time to play. He must be right ****ed off and I don't blame him.

Suarez carried them both. Kuyt and Maxi can create **** all on their own, they've done a good job at finishing in the second half of the season, I'll give them credit for that, but they're abysmal every time they play as midfielders in a 4-4-2. It's harsh but true IMO.

I hope this isn’t true but it sounds eminently plausible, although Henderson’s situation is entirely different to Downing. Downing isn’t a young player making his way in the game and should be under a lot more pressure from team-mates for his starting position if he’s not performing. That doesn’t mean Henderson should be allowed to play in the first team and produce very little though.

Well they certainly aren't starting based on form which if I recall correctly is what Kenny said in the summer would be the primary factor when choosing the starting 11.
