    Pacey wingers who can take players on and score goals.
    United have proved this season after season, that's what works..

    That's all we need to fine tune this squad..
    (along with a world class striker)

      He could have had a hat-trick had Craig Bellamy looked up instead of shooting himself as he was making an almost identical run to the other goal he scored.

        He makes that kind of runs that none of our other attacking players do, and he follows shots up something else none of our other players do. He should definately play much more often than he does. But he'll be on the bench or not even in the squad for the semi final.
        The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

          What he does isn't rocket science though is it. Make a run at the far post. Downing must watch him and feel stupid, but he doesn't have the confidence to get into those positions and risk missing. Maxi has had countless tap-ins for us at the far post and it's not a coincidence. I know he's a cert to leave but I think we should do what we can to keep him - he's not going to lose that knack just because he's 31 and his experience is invaluable. If we're really targeting young players then we will need players like him.

            Very good point.

            Sometimes if feels like our midfielders are too scared to get into the box and find a scoring opportunity. You only have to look at the amount of times we've got the ball deep in the opposition's half and you notice one player in the box if that. Even Carroll shies away from the box at times.

            If there's one thing the mancs are exceptional at, is swarming the box at the right moment. You suddenly see four/five players anticipating a delivery. Our midfielders are way too tentative and it's the main reason why we're struggling to score. There are just not enough players in the box when the final ball comes in.

                Not just Downing should be watching that - all the young players should be asked to watch him and see how effective something simple can be.

                  Played again & scores- hardly surprising. Aye, he's looked ineffective sometimes, but that's again not surprising given his lack of games.

                  Relegating him to the bench is incredibly frustrating. Surely goals are stats too FFS?!?

                    Very intelligent player, but I don't think he can play a full game, seems to disappear as the game goes on. That said, I'd like to see him start games and subbed off later if need be.

                        He just has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. We really do need him in the team because we don't have any other players with his intelligence on and off the ball IMO.

                          I've been saying that since October. Was really hoping KK would see it this way too. Sadly, he couldn't.

                              This season (league only): 7 appearances, 473mins played, 4 goals.

                              So that's a goal every 118 minutes.

                              It's a small sample but if he started every game and kept that ratio up he'd be on 20+ goals a season

                                struggle to understand maxi not playing regularly for us. maybe if he went for a more radical ****ty hair cut he'd be a certain starter.
                                removing all the weak links makes us stronger

                                too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
