What I mean by 'aura' is that he gets built up as an amazingly brilliant player. But when he comes on, this season especially he has been bang average. He is way better than Downing though and warrants a place ahead of him. I just think that 'The Myth of Maxi' gets over blown sometimes. Ive seen him talked about like he is the savior who is never picked.

But there must be other reasons he doesn't play much. Fitness, injuries. Something.

Mate, Maxi has a career total of something like 120 goals in 400 games. Poles apart from Meireles.

I'm not saying that he's a saviour either, but in a season where we're struggling to score goals (and our £20m left winger has been pony), it seems mad to not give Maxi a chance.

He is a 1 in 4 career goal scorer both at club and international level. He is a far great threat than Downing has ever been.

What's interesting is that occasionally, Argentina have used Maxi as a central midfielder, an option never explored here.

Nope. I didn't compare their goal records, I just said they both scored many of their goals last season in a short space of time. I also haven't said he doesn't offer a lot more than downing or that he doesn't have a good scoring record. Apart from that, bang on
