What he does isn't rocket science though is it. Make a run at the far post. Downing must watch him and feel stupid, but he doesn't have the confidence to get into those positions and risk missing. Maxi has had countless tap-ins for us at the far post and it's not a coincidence. I know he's a cert to leave but I think we should do what we can to keep him - he's not going to lose that knack just because he's 31 and his experience is invaluable. If we're really targeting young players then we will need players like him.

I call it the Maxi run now. Downing must be tied to Maxi in training using a 5 feet rope and forced to make the same runs as Maxi. Hopefully he will learn something about making and timing his runs.

Even though it is not rocket science, I dont think it is as easy as Maxi makes it out to be at times. Time your run too early and it is offside, too late and the defenders recover.

Garcia was another player who used to gamble on making runs when the striker or another player is lining up a shot.
