Kuyt and Maxi are 32 and I understand why we would be looking at replacing them or at least looking into the future. It's a gamble but not a surprising thing. They will want more game time at the stage of their careers. Don't understand why this would be seen as winding up some people.

Maxi saved our arses ****ing loads of time at the end of the 2010/2011 season. He scored 11 goals, many assists. His payback in 2011/2012 was that he was more often than not dropped to the bench. Crucially, he continued - whenever he played - to score goals and link up play beautifully, a really intelligent, gifted footballer. Back to the bench so Downing could play. Being 31 doesn't mean one is too senile to play a game a week (look at Bellamy), which - seeing as we had no Europe or anything to contend with and played some diabolical football at times that lacked real inspiration, spark and guile - was a right kick in the ****ing bollocks. That's why he waved. That's why he mentioned the other week that he's leaving for more minutes. He might be over 30, but he's not a mug.

someone is going to get a very good player for **** all, and we are daft to let him go. i could fully understand if he was making room for a better replacement, but that plainly isnt the case.

                  good luck, Maxi.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Not saying he's a mug ffs. He was never a real regular under Rafa. Always played his part without being an absolute regular. Great footballer and I would have liked to see more of him as well but sadly he wasn't signed by this regime and was always bound to play a bit part role.

Maxi only turned 31 in January.

We've got a 33 year old Bellamy and a 34 year old Carragher both playing regularly. Maxi is far from finished.

Bellamy's finished the season on his knees. I'd keep Maxi and Dirk but they would want more game time so no chance I think.

He had half a season under Rafa, he signed on the 13th of January 2012 and played 17 PL games. Then Rafa was sacked.

Anyways, you have your view. I still think that an intelligent footballer, who never moans in the press, quietly gets on with things and produces flair football and crucially goals and assists; the whole saga might have been dealt with better, seeing as during this season we could have used a Luis Garcia/Benayoun/Maxi type player. Whatever, he's gone. I just hope we get a decent ****ing replacement and not another Downing.

I remember wanting him a couple of years before he eventually signed and how made up I was when we got him. Such a clever player. Don't really understand why he hasn't had much of a look in, he could have been used more, links play up better than most.
