I would have thought the sale of one of Maxi and Kuyt was inevitable. Now Kuyt has gone I think the chances of maxi staying have gone up.
It really boils down to what Maxi wants but I cannot see Rodgers giving a starting job and that is what Maxi would like to see.

Clearly it depend if anyone is out there willing to pay similar wages to what Maxi earns now and/or Maxi will need to take paycut at the expense of playing regular football.

We will see I suppose but personally he is one foot out the door already.

Maybe Maxi doesn't want to start week in, week out but would happy with an active role within the squad. You had the feeling no matter what Maxi did he would be benched left out the following week, I am sure if he thought he maybe rewarded for playing well he could stay.

you get the feeling that there is a real drive to lower the squad age and the wages these older players are on that aren't actual first team players.

If ever there was a system and a manager that would suit Maxi it's the one Rodgers employs.
I'd love to see him play, we can't have a team/squad of youngsters

That's exactly how I see it too.

Our wage bill is significantly overinflated as we have bunch of players on our payroll that are frankly overpaid for the contribution and skills they bring to L4

Cole, Aquilani, Maxi, Carra wages are huge and if we can offload some of them we should be in position to possible bring some young and exciting talent that will improve the squad overall and help us compete for top 4 spots.

Yes, but Downing is also on high wages and Carroll's aren't exactly low either.

True, depends I guess on who he sees as being genuine first team players next season. I'd have thought Maxi would be a better fit than Downing for instance but we'll want a good chunk of the transfer fee back if we do get shot of him.

Aye, but we can probably actually get money on Downing in a way we could not on Maxi.

Yes but as the Birdman says we could do with an older head or 2 there to.
I think you are doing Maxi a huge disservice as those others you mention alongside him should all be discarded after varying contributions they have made to LFC.

I would be very happy for Cole, Aquiliani and Carra to leave saving probably around 15m a year as I think they have very little to offer liverpool moving forward.

I would love to keep Maxi, hugely talented, can still do a job and I would like to keep the south american flava around the club and if he can help tempt another attacking Argie or 2 would be very happy!!

true, but he's on a longer contract and potentially could at least hold his transfer value if we keep him for another year; same can't be said for Maxi.

I hope we keep Maxi, there were times last season where when he was playing we clicked and scored some 5-a-side type goals and he'd fit into the pass and move type of football.

If as suggested elsewhere Rodgers wants evolution not revolution and goals from midfield it would seem madness to sell Maxi to me. I guess it could come down to a fight between him and Cole (possibly Aquilani too, but I'm guessing he's off) for purely financial reasons.

Of the so called 'older heads' he's the only one I think would be a natural fit for Rodgers (other than Reina I guess but as he's a keeper I still think of him as younger).

Neither of them are even close to what those 4 make

                            I never said we shouldn't.

Like you I'd keep Maxi but I am not sure if Maxi wants to stay.

I'd keep Aquilani too but I doubt he wants to stay as well.

This is what Maxi said last June about his return to Newell's Old Boys.

"When I left here, I knew I was coming back. The president [Guillermo Lorente] called me and I said yes. Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little."
On top of his goodbye wave, I think he'll leave.
