The point he made about Academies is just plain stupid. Football isn't different to any other job. The companies search the world for the best talents. An English company won't give a **** about if the best talents is English or not.

If you want to stay competitive then you must search the globe for the best talents.

The more foreign young top class talents we get in the better the English young talents will be because they must improve to get a chance. They must work the socks off to improve.

That is one of the important points. Another is that the clubs need to get in more foreign coaches at youth level. The English ones is simply not good enough.

I don't want people involved at the club or any other club that would stand in the way for a top class foreign youngster only because he is foreign. To think like that is plain stupid and send out wrong signals.

If you are good enough then it shouldn't matter if you are English or not. If you think otherwise then close the door behind you.

I think I can probably see what Carra is trying to say.

But he's making a mess of it and should really keep these thoughts to himself. Not coming across well there.

I didn't discuss him. I discussed the point he made about the Academies

The most important point is that they must get in more foreign coaches at youth level. Just look at our Academy how important it is.

We had British coaches and almost no capped players at youth level now we have a lot of them.

You also need better referees that allow less at youth level. If they allow to much then the players must concentrate to much on the physical bit and other parts will suffer, like ball control, technique and skill.

The players will get injured early because they been kicked to pieces. If the referees allow less then the young players would stay fit more often instead of getting injured.

I think Carragher has a point about academies.

Of course it's not in the interests of the top clubs.

I agree English coaches seem to be ****e but then again I suspect many foreign ones are too. Who's that lugubrious arsehole who sat next to Ferguson for a while? He hasn't been too brilliant.

"Se Don Alex, this Bebe is, as you say, a ****ing great talent. Well worth seven million of your pounds."

Liverpool's Jamie Carragher reveals he may retire in two years' time

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed he may have less than two years left playing football before he retires from the game.

The 33-year-old made his first team debut for the Reds in January 1997 and has amassed 676 appearances, second only to Ian Callaghan in terms of games played for the Anfield side.

However, he now admits he could be considering retirement in the next couple of years and has taken steps into becoming a manger to stay in football.

Speaking at the Leaders in Football conference at Stamford Bridge, Carragher said: “You want to try to get as much out of [football]. The time will come in the next 12, 18 months, maybe two years [but] not at the moment.

“I've taken my first steps to coaching and the B licence. We all love the game, you want to stay involved in the game."

Carragher has never been tempted to move away from Anfield and is delighted the Reds have been challenging for major trophies throughout his career.

He added: "I don't think anyone would fancy taking me abroad! I'm lucky the club I play for aspires to win the biggest things. There's a duty almost.

"Not once can I remember a club showing any interest. I've never picked up a Sunday paper and seen my name linked with anyone."

The defender’s loyalty to Liverpool is becoming a rarity in modern football. The case of Carlos Tevez's refusal to play for Manchester City last week made it clear that Carragher could be one of the last of a dying breed.

He said on Tevez: "I've never known that [a player refusing to come on]. I think a lot of that was maybe to do with the relationship between the player and manager, [it] has gone on for a long time. You're desperate to get on and get your appearance money.

"When you go onto the pitch, everyone gives 100%. I'm a local lad so I don't expect those people to have the same feeling. What John Terry's got for Chelsea.

“I have no problem with players not feeling it as long as they always give 100 per cent."

The defender made the news on Wednesday by claiming England were ‘cheating’ by having a foreign manager as he believes the manager of the national team should be English. He stuck by that view on Thursday.

He said: “It's nothing against Capello or Eriksson or anybody who comes in the future. It's our best against their best. If we're short in those areas, we have to improve our players.

“The best doctor in the country should be the England doctor or the bus driver. If we're not up to it in certain areas..."

He also believes England needs to produce better young players in greater quantity and thinks foreign youngsters shouldn’t be allowed to play for English academies.

"That's a bit of a problem for me," he continued. "I think no foreign players should leave their country until 18 or 21. I think academies should be for local players."

Carragher also reflected on his decision to retire from international football, only then come out of it for the World Cup in 2010.

He said: “It was a decision I made for the club and myself. I didn't feel I let the country down. Also, I couldn't get a game for England.

“It gave me a chance to play at one of the highest levels of the game. I thought my career was on a nosedive. We had a disastrous season. [I thought] I'm going to make a selfish decision here."

Earlier this year Paul Scholes stated one of the reasons for the lack of England’s success was because of cliques within the team.

Carragher however believes Scholes and his then Manchester United team-mates were the ones guilty.

He added: "I don't want to start an argument here with Paul Scholes. It was more Man United and the rest. They'd grown up together.

“It was just like the five best mates together, they'd all come through together, there were that many of them. It was probably difficult for anyone to break into that little group and get to know them."

The 33-year-old feels footballers are becoming more isolated as they have become more high profile over the last decade which he believes is to their detriment.

"You talk about going to different places around the world," he said. "For us, it was exactly the same. You never go out and see [the places you are staying], why not go and watch a game? A lot of the time you're holed up, you just go and play the game and its very regimented."

The Reds defender thinks it’s time for goal-line technology to be brought into the game as he believes it could be crucial for deciding major games.

He concluded: "It's got to be brought in just for the goal-line. How many times does it happen? Each team may get a few a season.

"You've never going to get everything 100% right. But if you can get another 20-30%.We should be setting the bar for that. Football is the biggest game in the world so we should have the best technology."

Have to say that I am very disappointed that Carra holds such views, especially about the Academies. With such attitudes I tremble at the thought of him ever becoming Liverpool Manager. Give me a cultured open minded ex-player any day of the week, such as Xabi Alonso - he is the one I pray comes back one day as Manager.

Don't think there's any danger of that.

I don't care what he's said about England, what he's said about academies is odd, I'm not sure I agree with it.
