But you do need a Xabi type to make himself available to collect the ball from defence and bring it out. Against a high pressing team, we'd quickly resort to hoofing it up to their CB's

I dont quite get why people think Carra would be great as a manager.

if he does and manages us then great but to just assume it seems a bit silly

Mark Wright of lower league managerial credentials suggesting that we go with Skrtel & Carragher?! Jesus. Take it he hasn't seen our record under Agger & Skrtel and the way they both play together.

Its not either or, there are several shades of grey inbetween, much like our starting 11, its not you are in it you are great you are not you are ****, sometimes the better players seat on the bench, its all about the squad, at the moment, Carra's place in the "squad" is on the bench, does not make him any less of a great player ... Like all of the other years ... I'm not writing him off just yet

There are several ways in to management, and there have been a few examples of people working themselves up from a smaller coaching job to become a succesfull manager later. Guardiola is perhaps the most obvious example right now but AVB when at Porto is another example.

Hard to say if he has it in him, but we certainly can't rule him out yet, just as well as we can't say he would be perfect for the job.

my hunch is that he would be utter pants. but if he does well at some smaller clubs first, i suppose it'd be worth a shot.

He may well turn out to be a good coach but I would fear he would be very much in the old school British tradition. I think we need to learn something from the ideas expounded by Cruyff and Spanish football and look to a more technique based and tactically sophisticated future.

That's exactly as i see him, our equivalent of Stuart Pearce - Nothing special and massively over-hyped.
                  We come not to play.

And they both like shouting as well.

                      That's a quite perfect analogy

Pretty silly statement by Wright any way you look at it.

Agger is the world class defender and having him in the first team fit and healthy is the best thing it could happen to us.

How someone plays as a player or what someone says as a player is by no means a certain indication of how they will manage as a Coach.

He seems a one club kind of guy, hes a living legend, is he perfect ? no but show me someone who is, but he loves the club as much if not more than some us do, he knows more about than we do, he has grown up in it, his entire Adult life as been spent at this club, how many of you can say you have spent 3 years let alone 21 Years with the same employers. He has only ever done his best for the club, he ran through brick walls for the club year in year out, perhaps he backed the wrong manager perhaps not, but no bigger servant to the club still playing for the club will you find. He has always been my favorite player. Even when he was a no nonsense row Z RB, even when he was questioned by the fans ala yeah but is he good enough for United, even when people questioned his move into CB which for me seem the most natural role in the world for him, The man dislocates his ****ing shoulder which is about as painful as it gets and walks off slowly so the team can reorganize and is still shouting instructions from the side lines, when most footballers would in tears shaking like they've been electrecuted and expecting a moments of silence. What a player ! what a guy ! **** I would be proud as punch to call someone like that a mate, and I am certainly extremely proud we have that kind of player at my football club.

Carra is for life not just for Christmas

Nah, even if you don't believe the Carra/Rafa stuff, some of the stuff he has come put with is blinkard at best, at worst xenophobic. I'd have grave concerns we'd end up with a team of Warnocks & Murphys.
                                3rd place. Worst champions ever.
