I think as a local lad who has come through the youth system and made it to the top, I think that he feels the need to speak out on behalf of young (local) players. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Is that really the case? Do you think his style would have counted against him? I wouldn't say he would necessarily have been that far behind the likes of Flannigan or Kelly ability wise at that age and they are in the match day squads and in the team a fair amount.Originally posted by Rich View PostCould Carragher's opinion on young local talent have anything to do with the fact that in all liklihood an 18 year old Carragher at LFC today wouldn't stand a chance of a squad position?!"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Tell that to Mancini and KennyOriginally posted by dww View PostThat's fair enough. Certainly no one saw Holloways change in style coming. Although I think the default position should be that players won't make good managers.Anybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. Nov 2015

Both Kelly and Flanagan look better technically than Carragher ever did. Carragher's strength back at the turn of the century was his ability to fill in and be defensively solid as either fullback or defensive midfield. It also helped that Houllier's style of play allowed for a deep backline and fast long balls forward for Heskey and Owen, so his limitations were less of an issue to the team.
Obviously when he matured and moved into the middle his partnership with Hyypia was fantastic but I'm not sure an 18 year old Carragher could map out a similiar career at LFC today.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Fair point but also the game has changed considerably also, I remember him being a no nonsense you are not getting past me pal defender, rarely would you see him above the half way line and never on the overlap but he ran a tight shop on the right flank, high concentration, great positioning and fantastic tackling, he gains a yard over most players because of his positioning and I seem to remember he always had this in his lockerOriginally posted by Rich View PostJust throwing it out there

More advertising for IRWT. And leave out the Scottish stereotypes please, mate.
.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I'm not really sure that your logic is sound. Many more players have failed to translate success on the pitch to success in the dug out than have done I would suggest.Originally posted by MrNice View PostTell that to Mancini and Kenny"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Carragher refuses to sulk over being a sub
Published 22:30 17/01/12 By David Anderson
Jamie Carragher says he accepts that he is no longer a first-team regular at Liverpool.
Carragher has slipped behind Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel in the defenders' pecking order and has been on the bench for most of Liverpool's recent games.
The Reds' vice-captain acknowledges his new role, and says he can't complain because the team have kept five clean sheets in their last nine games.
"It's not really difficult to adjust to being a sub," said Carragher. "The lads are playing well. Of course you want to play - and the manager wouldn't expect anything else.
"When I have been playing over the years and doing well, someone else has had to sit on the bench for me. The roles have reversed now and you have to show respect to the manager, the club and the players playing in my position. I appreciate that.
"The club have done a lot for me over the years and I'm not going to say anything or cause any trouble just because I'm not playing.
"You've got to be professional and wait for your chance. When it comes, you have got to do as well as you can."
Carragher, who is 34 this month, helped shut-out Stoke at Anfield on Saturday as part of Liverpool's three-man central defence and claims it was good to make his first league start since October.
"Of course I enjoyed it," he said. "I'm no different to anyone else. It was just nice to put the Red shirt on and play at Anfield again.
"It's something that I have wanted to do since I was 18 and nothing has changed now I'm nearly 34. But the lads have been doing great and I understand the situation."
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

He knows it, Kenny knows it and so do the fans; he's had his day, been a great servant, and now it's time to look towards the future.
