    I agree.

He's been a fantastic servant to the club and between 2004-07 he was class. Really dipped from 2009 onwards but he has done well this season.

The problem with is we are now going to need two if not three CBs this summer.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The defensive rebuild is by far the biggest priority for the summer

We should get him as defensive coach or something like that. Go on Brendan, do it.
              Are we winning?

Two is the minimum - someone to compete with Agger and Skrtel (replacing Carragher), a young one for the future (replacing Coates) and maybe even a guarenteed first teamer (replacing Skrtel!!)

Not surprised in the slightest to be honest. it's the end of his career.

What a legend though - a ****ing hero for the club on and off the pitch, and i hope he is successful in what ever it is he does - tv/management etc.

I know i'll be pretty gutted on his last game at anfield

Knew he would retire soon but still shocked to hear it.

                        What a legend.

Sad news, been a fantastic servant all these years, although he's not always been recognised for the great defender he was (by many, and not always by some LFC fans).

Probably a good thing to retire while ahead, but sad day non the less. Hope he will have some cracking games from here 'till the end of the season.

Will go down as one of the best defenders for this club

Think Raul Albiol might be worth a punt.

Feels like the end of an era.

An absolutely magnificent servant to the club.
