It's not a question of being allowed. It's just that scrutinising one tiny detail or another misses the essential fact that he's got so much still to develop.

There are so many ifs it just seems silly and it all just adds to the weight of expectation. There's too much focus on young players and too much criticism (constructive as well as otherwise) even when they do break through - to start it when they're in the U-17s is f*cking crazy.

I don't blame anyone here - it's the media's determination to hype up football. I mean, why on earth do Sky show the f*cking 'Victory Shield'?

Next thing they'll be showing kickabouts from primary school playgrounds and getting Charlie Nicholas and Peter Beagrie to waffle on about the disappointing performance from the young lad in Miss Blackwell's Year 5 class.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

We all know he may not make it but it seems for the first time in ages we have a few youngsters that there is some excitement about.

Sure, that's great, I agree. I understand people are enthusiastic but I can't see why there's anything more to say, that's all.

IIRC ITV used to show that when I was a lad.

It was pretty much essential viewing for a generation starved of live footie.

£15m does sound ludicrous at this stage. But it raises a good point for us fans. What price would be we accept if some rich Arab owned club saw his potential and wanted him badly enough this summer?

I wouldn't even let him go for £15 million to be honest but that's just my biased opinion.

If we tried to sell him then we would easily get £15m for him. It is a crazy transfer market out there. We would never sell him for £15m and we don't need to sell.

I don't think some people that laugh at my £15m valuation understand how crazy the transfer market is when it comes down to young talents.

From the buying clubs perspective: It seems unlikely that anyone would pay big money for a player with no first team experience, a few million probably, possibly up to £5-6m max, if the buying club think he's extremely talented. But these sorts of deals tend only to happen with big clubs buying from small clubs. The bigger the selling club the less likely such deal are to happen if they (the selling club) believe the player can make it.

From the selling clubs perspective: If you believe the player won't make it you'll sell for a reasonable price (whilst trying to make the buying club think he's a great talent to max the price). If you are a small club there is some level of inevitability that the player will leave for a bigger club you just try and max the price. If you are a big club and rate the player highly you will do everything you can to keep the player, in all likelihood (assuming the player doesn't want to move) you will either say the player isn't for sale or set the price so high that the buying club won't take the risk and the player will stay.

In this case I unless we have a cash flow problem that while we believe the player can make it and while the player doesn't want to leave, we wouldn't sell.

We wouldn't get £15m because no-one would be prepared to take the risk, Walcott, Bale and Ramsey all went for less than £12m despite having at least ~1 full season of senior football. Sterling hasn't even played a full season of reserve team football yet. It's a huge step up. Look at Neil Mellor, amazing record at youth and reserve level but never really stepped up.

Sterling has world class potential, top 3 in the world in his position potential. He's not comparable to Walcott, Ramsey or Bale IMO.
