Jamie's spot on there it's great getting big fees but we need to stop giving our best players reason to want to leave and start matching their ambitions. Selling players for big fees are great for the balance sheet but then spending big money on average players will get us nowhere which has proved the case.
Now we have more money to spend Im hoping that we use the money and buy a top class striker which doesn't include Benteke. Go all out for Lacazzete or Marco Reus. Show some ambition.
Many of the players who are down as being our best players who left, were not as well thought of when we signed them compared to the name they'd made for themselves by the time they left.
edit: ok, when i wrote the above i was sure there was a point i was making, not sure i remember what it was now though.
We can all pick a list of bad players we have brought.
Why not include Suarez, Sakho, Sturridge, Coutinho or Can on that list?
That's true but we got Sturridge, Coutinho and Can cheap. Suarez wasn't the big buy of the window he came in on, it was Carroll and Sakho hasn't proven himself yet. He still isn't our first choice centre back or even second.
Since our first American owners we have a long track record of selling our best players for a lot of money and blowing it on mediocre to ****.
Some of our cheaper buys develop into stars and get sold and the cycle continues.
Coutinho will be next, then Ibe/Wisdom/Can, whichever exponentially develops fastest to a stage when they are too good for our team and can be sold for a lot of money.
No way is sterling in the Torres and Suarez category.

We're selling a player coming off an indifferent season for Firmino, who is widely regarded as a great prospect. And making a profit, can't really knock that bit of business.

**** signing 'prospects'
Established, quality players is what we should be signing.
We ****ed up last summer by signing 'prospects' 'projects' and 'potential'

Just look at United this summer. Going out signing CL quality players where last season we signed Championship quality. This summer has been good so far but we need to push the boat out. The top four will be extremely hard to crack this season and appears to be getting further and further away.
Let's sell the rest of the ****e and use to money to sign quality established players.

We're going to find it very difficult to get back in again. Just look at the table since 2009 and we've only finished ahead of Spurs once. I think sometimes we forget just how far we've fallen of late.
I agree. He failed to step up to the plate last season when we really needed him. Possibly felt the pressure but there's going to be pressure at City too.
